Girls’ Generation teaser photos have been receiving attention for their similarity to past photos.
The girls have released teaser photos for their second Japanese album ‘Girls & Peace‘. The theme of the photos was flight attendants, and the girls dressed up in various retro flight attendant clothing to show off their charm. However, fans noticed that the teaser photos looked too similar to photos of PSA Airline stewardesses’ in 1962 and Southwest Airline stewardesses in 1971.
In one photo, the girls are dressed in a pink and red outfit complete with red caps and red heels, and are posing on top of an airplane wing. In 1962, PSA Airline stewardesses posed in an outfit that was almost exactly the same, complete with red caps and heels, and had also posed on top of an airplane wing.
In another photo, the girls are dressed in yellow and orange with white boots, and are posing on a staircase that leads up to the airplane. Southwest Airlines had their stewardesses dressed in yellow and orange with white boots, posing on a staircase leading up to the airplane in the same exact pose.
When netizens saw the photos, their opinions were divided. Some argued that stewardesses all wore similar clothes, and that many airlines posed in similar ways. They argued, “Then ‘Genie’ should be accused of plagiarizing marine outfits“, “It’s not plagiarizing, that’s just how the airline retro concept is like“.
However, others did not agree. They pointed out that the uniforms could have been different by simply changing to different colors. They also pointed out that the poses could have been mixed up but were not, and even had the exact same backgrounds. They commented, “It’s not even referencing, it’s just a copy“, “The uniforms are exactly the same“, and “Girls’ Generation is pretty, but I think these pictures are a bit too much“.
What do you think about the photos?
