SNSD Most Searched, Downloaded, and Watched Artists in 2010

SNSD is taking Korea by storm! After picking up the Best Artist award at the 2010 Melon Music Awards, it was revealed that they were the most-searched, most-downloaded, and most-watched pop artists in Korea on Naver and YouTube, respectively.

Naver, which is the top Korean portal site, announced on Wednesday that SNSD was the most searched artist, and that their hit singles "Oh", "Hoot", and "Run Devil Run" had all reached the top ten in the list of most-downloaded songs of 2010. (The top spot went to miss A's debut single, "Bad Girl Good Girl".)

These results were based on information taken from the 2010 Naver Music Chart, which accounts for the millions of people who log onto the site to download music. 10Asia states that the chart "reflects the total number of music downloads, real-time ratings, real-time album chart, and the accumulated number of times the artist was searched."

As for videos, it was reported that SNSD has topped YouTube's list of most-watched videos in Korea and put three others in the top ten as well, according to the official YouTube channel, which has a website called 2010: The Year in Review.

The most-watched music video in 2010 was SNSD's "Oh", and the second most-watched was their "Run Devil Run". "Hoot" and the dance version of "Oh" rounded out the list at spots nine and ten, respectively.

And for anyone who thinks that SNSD is purely a national sensation, think again: they also placed in the top ten in other Asian countries: "Oh" placed number one in Taiwan, six in Hong Kong, and nine in Japan. "Run Devil Run" placed third in Taiwan.

SNSD hwaiting!

'T-ara Hyomin 'Rumours about looking like Jessica?' ' Laughed with Jessica about it'

T-ara Hyomin talked about the rumours of her looking alike with SNSD Jessica.

As Hyomin is promoting her new song Yayaya, her long hair she had for 4 years had to be cut. After she changed her hairstyle, netizens said, "After you cut your hair, you look similar to Jessica!"

From this Hyomin said,'"Jessica and I both know about this." She said, "Since i always had long hair, i wanted a change, since I cut my hair I heard from many people that I looked like Jessica. It's fun," she said.

'Jessica also definitely knows about this, during the trainee days of Jessica people said, " There is a girl that's looks like you". There was a time she even looked for her.

From then onwards, they have been hearing many things saying they looked alike. Even now when hearing about the rumours, Hyomin and Jessica both laugh together about it.

‘I Love You’ MR-Removed version: Taeyeon praised for her awesome singing ability

Recently, the MR-Removed version of Taeyeon’s ‘I Love You’ (the OST for SBS drama ‘Athena’) videos have surfaced on online entertainment forum sites.

For those who are not familiar with the term, MR means Music Recorded. So, for MR-Removed videos, basically, the music is taken out from the video and all that can be heard is the artist’s actual vocal ability. This method has been used to evaluate the vocal abilities of artists such as IU, Beast, Sistar, SNSD, T-ara and other idol groups.

From the MR-removed video of ‘I Love You’, one could only come up with a conclusion that Taeyeon’s singing ability is near-perfect as there is only a slight 1% of voice wavering and the difference between the normal and MR-removed video (in terms of singing) could hardly be detected. Composer of ‘I Love You’, Ahn Youngmin even praised Taeyeon for her great singing ability.

Netizens who heard the MR-Removed version gave their praises to Taeyeon :

-”Powerful singing ability”

-”How is it possible that such voice comes from someone with a kid-like face?”

-”This is a really good song. Superb singing ability”

Check out the MR-Removed version of ‘I Love You’ and be amazed!

Meanwhile, SNSD will be attending the TBS Japan Record Awards in Japan on December 30th.

TaeYeon's Crazy Vocal and YoonA's Real Face SNSD Domination?

People are supporting TaeYeon by comparing her to IU, who can sing 3 octaves and thus is known for crazy vocals. On online communities, a MR removed version of "I Love You (Athena OST)" by TaeYeon was released lately. The netizens use the MR removals in order to determine the singer's vocals.

TaeYeon showed stable and improved vocals in the MR removed version of "I Love You". The netizens who came across this video stated "I never knew TaeYeon's vocal was this good." "Amazing." "TaeYeon broke my stereotype that idols are bad at vocals." And also praised TaeYeon by saying that TaeYeon's vocal is good enough to compete with that of IU.

On the same day, 17th, Kim Ih Nah, who is known for writing hit songs, revealed her impressions on seeing YoonA. On the 17th, Kim Ih Nah tweeted "Wherever SNSD goes, people open a way for them and there are light around them. I think that they came from heaven." and showed her awe on SNSD. "Especially YoonA's face was beautiful, after seeing her, I start avoiding mirrors," she left a message that praised YoonA's appearance.

By praising TaeYeon's vocals and YoonA's appearance, it clearly shows that SNSD is dominating right now.

Yonghwa and Seohyun to compose a duet song

On the upcoming broadcast of MBC’s “We Got Married“, the YongSeo couple (CNBLUE’s Jung Yonghwa and SNSD’s Seohyun) will receive a mission to compose a couple song together.

The couple will continue to build on a song created by Yonghwa, called the “informal speech song.” A work-in-progress, it was revealed on last week’s episode when Yonghwa sang a bit of it to Seohyun during their date.

In order to work on the song, the couple went over to Yonghwa’s CNBLUE dorm, which had the necessary equipment. Throughout their session Yonghwa continuously helped Seohyun, who had no experience in composing or writing lyrics. At the end, the couple was able to create an electronica version of the “informal speech song.”

Check out the following clip of the song from last week’s episode, and be sure to tune in on this week’s “We Got Married”, scheduled for December 18th!

Increasing concern over idols’ dangerous work conditions

With the recent injury of SNSD’s Tiffany, industry representatives have been raising voices of concern over the dangerous conditions idol singers are forced to perform in.

The majority of idols perform elaborate choreography on slippery stages while wearing clothing that distracts and gets in the way of safety measures. Female idols are especially prone to injuries, as they usually perform in 10cm ‘kill heels,’ increasing the possibility of an injury occurring.

Not only that, but their jam packed schedules and frequent dance rehearsals leave no time for rest, straining their bodies to work under high levels of fatigue.

Park Sung Jin, the director of Wellton Hospital, commented, “Injuries such as desmorrhexis are increasing amongst the youth due to intense workouts and carelessness. It’s difficult to treat damaged ligaments, and recovery takes a long time, so it’s important that injuries don’t happen at a young age.”

Hallyu stars SNSD, KARA, and Super Junior return for year-end special stage!

In a year where many Korean idol groups were successful in their overseas endeavors, it’s only appropriate that these Hallyu stars be named K-pop’s Hot Trend I for 2010!

For a special treat, Music Bank has brought SNSD and KARA together to perform an extremely special stage.

Check it out below!

SNSD wins Music Bank overall K-Chart for 2010 + other performances

As we come up to the end of the year, it was time for KBS to roll out their Music Bank year-end special on December 17th and crown their ultimate K-Chart winner for the whole of 2010.

To mark the special occasion, top K-Pop artists converged on the same stage this evening to perform their hit songs for the year, and some collaborated for some special stages.

SNSD, KARA, T-ara and SECRET on the power of girls groups.

Just like the mid-year special earlier this year, it was another battle between SNSD and 2AM for the overall K-Chart crown for 2010. In the end, it was the SNSD girls who won and it was no mean feat as they had 3 songs (Oh!, Run Devil Run and Hoot) which charted in the Top 10. Congratulations!

Check out some SoKa love at the end too!

SNSD's First Appearance In A Japanese Drama

user posted image

On the 15th it was announced that all 9 members of Korean girl group SNSD would be making a guest appearance in the New Years special drama “SAZAE-San 3”, which stars actress Mizuki Arisa, and will air next year on January 2nd. While Namihei is having his first dream of the year, he hits a hole in one on a golf course, where SNSD will be here and there playing beautiful caddies. [TL Note: The first dream of the year is significant in Japan because it is said to tell your fortune for the rest of the year.] This is their first time participating in a drama in Japan, they express their joy to being able to participate in one of our nation’s popular works. “It’s SAZAE-san’s 65th anniversary since its creation! Congratulations. We’re happy that we, SNSD, can participate in SAZAE-san, which continues to get a lot of love from many Japanese people.”

Due to bad weather, filming had to be stopped because it kept raining. During the long filming, SNSD were able to communicate together with the staff in simple Japanese to end the filming on a good note. They didn’t lose focus and their acting, as well as Japanese speech, was almost perfect.

SNSD debuted this September with their single “GENIE” and it entered the weekly single ranking chart at #4. The other day “FNS Music Festival (Kayousai)” was aired and the moment the girls were on the screen, the program received its highest ratings of 29.4%. K-POP girls are the new thing blowing in on Japan’s music scene.

Producer of the special drama, Asano Sumi, confidently commented, “While I was searching for someone suitable for the New Year’s special, I saw SNSD’s cute promotional video, and I felt them sparkle, they were exactly who I would want to see while drinking tea with all of my family.” The girls’ appearance is short, but it’s a scene that leaves a vivid impression.
