According to the October sales figures from the Gaon Chart, SNSD scored big with their latest album, ‘The Boys‘, breaking the 200,000 physical sales mark in less than half a month! They have become the nation’s first girl group to achieve the impressive feat in such a short period.
Released on October 19th, ‘The Boys’ managed to break the 200,000 mark in less than two weeks, leading to a total of 227,994 in less than a month. This figure is enough to place SNSD in third place in yearly sales, as they trail behind Super Junior‘s ‘Mr. Simple’ (329,035 copies) and TVXQ‘s ‘Keep Your Head Down’ (244,128 sales).
“The number of albums sold for top idol artists rose higher compared with the results from the same period last year, thanks to the effects of the worldwide Hallyu Wave,” commented an analyst for Gaon.“We theorize that the increased amount of sales comes from foreign fans purchasing through online sites.”
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong‘s ‘Lucky’ placed second on the monthly chart with sales of 94,784 whileJYJ snagged third place with 81,867 units moved for ‘In Heaven’.
