Girls' Generation Places 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the 2010 Gaon Chart

The Gaon Chart, South Korea's official music chart run by the Korea Music Content Industry Association, released their list of bestselling albums in 2010 yesterday. All three of Girls' Generation's 2010 Korean albums claimed spots two through four, making them the only female artists to place in the top five.

Coming in second place is their second full-length album "Oh!", having sold 197,934 copies last year. In third is their third mini-album "Hoot", with 163,066 copies purchased. And in fourth is the repackaged version of their second album, "Run Devil Run", with 136,851 copies sold, a monumental feat for an album with only two new songs and a remix of Star Star Star. In total, the girls sold 497,851 copies of their new studio albums in South Korea alone in 2010.

Super Junior received first place, having sold 200,193 copies of "Bonamana", and G-Dragon and T.O.P came in 5th with 130,000 sold.

Other Girls' Generation albums making the list include: "The First Asia Concert Tour: Into the New World" at 29th with 44,999 copies, "Gee" at 48th with 31,087 copies, "Sowoneul Malhaebwa (Genie)" at 49th with 29,968 copies, "Baby Baby" at 54th with 27,154 copies, and "Girls' Generation" at 61st with 24,802 copies.

In other 2010 Gaon charts, Girls' Generation had four songs make the top 100 in the online chart, with "Oh!" at 5th, "Hoot" at 10th, "Run Devil Run" at 25th, and Taeyeon and the One's duet "Like a Star" at 53rd. In the download chart, "Oh!" came in 2nd, "Run Devil Run" came in 26th, "Hoot" came in 28th, and "Star Star Star" came in 99th. In the streaming chart, "Oh!" placed 4th, "Run Devil Run" placed 22nd, and "Hoot" placed 31st.

SNSD’s Sooyoung thought she was the prettiest in the world?

SNSD’s Sooyoung confessed that she once thought herself to be the prettiest in the world.

SBS’s “Nightly TV Entertainment” recently visited SNSD while they were filming a CF for a cosmetic company. In response to the reporter’s question, “Don’t you feel awkward about having to pose ‘prettily’ for the shoot?”, Sooyoung said, “Not really“.

Sooyoung explained, “In fact, before I met the members, I spent half of my life thinking that I was the prettiest in the world“.

Chuckling at herself, “But after meeting the SNSD members, I finally realized that I wasn’t pretty.”

During the interview, SNSD picked Tiffany as the member who devotes the most care to her skin, andSunny as the member who cares the least. They also revealed that they would like to film a CF for a coffee product.

SNSD received 4th Gold Disc Certificates

According to Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), SNSD’s ‘New Beginning of Girls’ Generation‘Commemorative DVD has successfully obtained the Gold Disc Certificate.

Gold Disc Certificates are given as acknowledgement by the association to albums selling more than 100,000 copies. The DVD was released in August last year, ahead of SNSD’s Japanese debut. It has been 6 months since their debut and SNSD are enjoying great success in Japan.

This is SNSD’s 4th consecutive Gold Disc Certificates after their Japanese debut. Previously, SNSD’s First Japanese Debut Single ‘Genie’, 2nd Japanese Single ‘Gee’ and Licensed 3rd Mini Album ‘Hoot’ sold more than 100,000 copies respectively and each of these albums had been certified Gold by RIAJ.

SNSD who recently released their new Japanese single ‘Run Devil Run’ are expected to release their 3rd Japanese Single soon and proceed with their Japanese activities.

Meanwhile, their sunbaes, TVXQ’s ‘Why? (Keep Your Head Down)’ has been awarded Platinum by RIAJ. In Japan, it sold more than 250,000 copies to date.

'Gee' is one of the favorite Valentine's Day songs in Japan

From a survey carried out in Japan to determine the ‘Valentine’s Day Love Song‘, Kara and SNSD‘s songs were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The survey which involved 70,000 participants was conducted by Avex’s music sales company, ‘mu-mo‘. According to Japan’s music information site, ‘BARKS’ on February 10th, Kara’s ‘Mister’ and SNSD’s ‘Gee’ took the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively. According to an article, it was believed that the lyrics of these two songs played an important role in the participants’ selections.

In the same survey, Kana Nishino took 1st while Perfume came in 4th. Japanese Diva, Ayumi Hamasaki’s song secured the 5th spot in the survey.

SNSD’s Sooyoung shares a meal with her sister

Sooyoung’s sister, Choi Soo Jin, recently tweeted a photo of herself sharing a meal with Sooyoung at a restaurant.

The two seem to be enjoying a fried cutlet, and are taking advantage of their rare spare time to hang out on a date.

Soo Jin is a musical actor, and many netizens praised her pretty looks: “She looks prettier than Sooyoung,” “Both look pretty, but Sooyoung’s sister is more…,” “Very pretty” and “They kind of look similar.”
