[News] 'Girls Generation’s and Kara’s hot pants not allowed!' in Thailand

With their popularity increasing all over Asia, Korean girl groups have become fashion icons to young fans. The trendy hot pants these groups often wear on stage have also become popular among fans, but Thai government officials are officially warning people against wearing such garments.

On Tuesday morning, TV channel MBC’s “News Today” reported on the latest fad of copying Korean girl groups in Thailand. Thai teenage girls are especially fond of hot pants that many of these groups wear, calling it the “Korean style.”

However, the Thai government has ruled hot pants as a threat with regards to dengue fever that is currently sweeping the nation.

“Teenagers that wear the ‘Korean style’ short pants are more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes,” said the Thai Deputy Minister of Public Health Anutarasak. “They should wear long pants instead of shorts.”

As many as 90,000 people have contracted dengue fever this year in Thailand and there have been 100 deaths. The Thai government is warning against short pants with maximum skin exposure because dengue fever is caused by a virus spread by mosquitoes.

[News] Girls' Generation, the Cover of Nikkei Business

Girls' Generation on the cover of Japanese economic weekly Nikkei Business

Korean band Girls' Generation have made the cover of Japanese economic weekly Nikkei Business. The girl group recently launched their first single album "Genie" in Japan to huge success. In its Sept. 27 issue, the magazine draws a parallel between the secret of the girl band's success and Korea's growing business acumen in general.

Girls' Generation was put together by their talent agency from women fluent in Japanese, English and Chinese to target the global market. The magazine highlights how the group managed to conquer the Japanese music market in such a short period of time with its single, which sold 100,000 since the launch on Sept. 8 despite the fact that sales of CDs have been plummeting in Japan.

The magazine attributes the success of Girls' Generation as well as newer Korean companies such as Internet portal site NHN, E Mart, and CJ Entertainment to a high level of professionalism based on thorough preparation and great efforts, and their strategy to target the global market. "The shipshape performance of Girls' Generation was possible only through rigorous preparation and practice. It is fascinating to see how the movement of all nine members is in perfect order. They epitomize a professionalism that is difficult to be found in other girl groups", the magazine said.

The tight management that checks the condition of each member minutely is also reminiscent to that of Korea's global companies such as Samsung Electronics and Hyundai, Nikkei Business added.
