SMTown to perform in Taiwan April 2011 include SNSD

MTV Taiwan "Top Entertainment" recently did a report on SHINee's fanmeeting and conference in Taiwan. They discussed the performances by SHINee as well as the lucky fans who received clothing from the members.

The thing that caught most fans eyes was the mention of SMTOWN in Taiwan. MTV revealed that SMTOWN will be holding a concert in Taiwan with SNSD, SHINee, Super Junior, DBSK and the rest of the family sometime in April of 2011.

It looks like SME is taking more care of their fans in other countries. With the expansion to Japan, fanmeetings in Taiwan and other Asian countries, SM really is taking over Asia!

"First comeback after giving birth" Song Yun-ah transforms into SNSD

Song Yun-ah was recruited into SNSD to take Tiffany's position for the performance.

At MBC 8th Republic of Korea Film Awards Celebration, for the first performance after giving childbirth, Song Yun-ah danced to "Tell Me Your Wish" along with the members of SNSD.

The celebration did not take place for 3 consecutive years since 2007. Song Yun-ah took the position as the MC. In spite of giving childbirth recently, she showed a body line as good as SNSD. Furthermore, wearing the same costume as those of SNSD, she danced perfectly to SNSD's choreography.

After the performance, she said "I was glad that Korea Film Awards Celebration is going to take place again, and I was very honored to be asked to be the MC. However, I couldn't sleep for several nights due to my anxiety about how I will be tortured. And that hasn't failed on me." She caused the audience to laugh.

She also said "Now I just performed with Asia's star and flowers, SNSD. I feel very sorry. And I'm very thankful to the choreography teacher who made the dancing possible for me."

She stated her views toward Korea's films. "Even though there aren't millions of films, Korea's films exhibit a variety of possibilities. So, all the unique films will soon compete with each other."

Korea Film Awards "Please smile at SNSD's performance"

The hosts of 8th MBC Republic of Korea Film Awards told the audience to smile to SNSD's performance right before the performance.

On the 18th, 7PM, 8th MBC Republic of Korea Film Awards raised its curtain. SNSD and Song Yun-ah performed for its opening.

The most attracting topic of this event was that MBC showed a message "Please smile while watching SNSD's performance" on the screen.

"Please smile" was probably shown in order to prevent the incident that happened at the DaeJong Award from happening again.

Last month at 29th, SNSD performed their new song, HOOT, at the DaeJong Award. However, they received a cold response from the famous actors and actresses.

There has been controversies about the award when the netizens uploaded their captures of the actors' and actresses' motionless expression response.

Was it because of the fear of the recurrence of DaeJong Award incident? SNSD's performance were accompanied with great responses and appreciation.

Taecyeon and SNSD's Jessica are accused of dating by netizens.

Recently in various portal sites, articles with the title 'Ok Taecyeon and Jessica are dating' are spilling over. It's come to a point where if one writes Ok Taecyeon in a search engine, Jessica comes up as a related search term.

One netizen put up writing of a witnessing of a date between the two on a community site, saying, 'According to a Megabox employee, the two people came to see a movie during the night. They were hugging as they went, then seperated right away after eyeing the employee'. Another netizen also left that 'Jessica, on the night when she recently came back from Japan to Korea, went to see a movie with Ok Taecyeon again. According to the worker, they watched 'Resident Evil''.

Since 1980, there was no single international female artist who can break though this position.

SNSD to Appear in Court to Testify on ‘Slave Contract’

Girls Generation will attend court to testify on the case regarding Dong Bang Shin Ki’s “slave contract” with their agency, and their testimony seems to have become a turning point for the current controversy on the slave contract.

The star girl group “Girls Generation” will attend the court of the Fair Trade Commission in the beginning of next month. They will testify on the truth behind the “slave contract” accusation, which has become a heated controversy after being provoked by the late actress Jang Ja Yeon’s suicide and star group Dong Bang Shin Ki’s exclusive contact. Girls Generation originally had planned to attend the Fair Trade Commission at the end of this month, but their agency SM Entertainment (hereinafter refer to SM ENT) had requested to postpone the timing to prepare more evidential documents, so their appearance in court had been delayed to the beginning of December.

They would come to court not to testify on their own agency contract, but to make a statement about the “slave contract” accusation of Dong Bang Shin Ki, who had belonged to the same agency. In the beginning of this year, Dong Bang Shin Ki’s fan club had requested the Fair Trade Commission to find out the truth concerning the “slave contract” by SM ENT while asserting that SM ENT had abused their position over Dong Bang Shin Ki and given disadvantages to their singers. When taking into account the fact that Girls Generations is the most popular girl group not only in the domestic market, but also in other countries including Japan, their testimony in the court of the Fair Trade Commission seems likely to have a huge influence on the judgment on many entertainment agencies’ “slave contract” accusations.

But the specific members who will appear in court and whether they will all come together or not has reportedly not yet been decided. A person in the Fair Trade Commission said on November 15, “We think that it would be very meaningful to have the statement made by Girls Generation, which is the biggest star girl group in Korea, about the reality of exclusive contracts between entertainment agencies and entertainers. SM ENT also had the same opinion with us, so they had let Girls Generation testify in court.”

But it seems Girls Generation will not make a statement against their agency SM ENT by saying that there will be any possibility of engaging in a “slave contract,” so the final verdict by the Fair Trade Commission has drawn attention. A person in the Fair Trade Commission said, “We know that many entertainment agencies made a contract with applicants who hope to become entertainers, and they had signed the minimum ten year contract period (seven years as a trainee and more than three years after their debut). As the court already regards the agency contract with more than a ten-year contract period as a problematic contract, we will examine thoroughly whether the agency had made a 'slave contract' or not by taking the Girls Generations’ statement into account.” He added, “After we finish our own investigation and finish reviewing the document to be presented by SM ENT, we will decide the time and place that Girls Generation needs to attend to make their statement.”

SM's Operating Profit Increases 92.65%

Large entertainment company SM Entertainment (AKA: SM)’s results from July-September 2010 has improved favorably.

On the 15th, SM announced that their sales during July-September were 207,400,000,000 won (~18,325,358 USD), Operating profit was 4.58 billion won (~4 million USD) and net profit was 2.75 billion won (~2.4 million USD). Compared to the previous year, the sales increased 26.04%, the operating profit increased 92.65% and the net profit increased 11.59%. SM sent their singers SNSD to do full-scale promotions in Japan during July-September, and the results are amazing.

The totals for SM this year so far are: Sales – 68,232,000,000 won (~ 60,392,961 USD), Operating Profits – 23,187,000,000 won (~20.5 million USD), Net Profits – 20,387,000,000 won (~18,044,778 USD). These numbers are a lot larger than 2009 [Total Sales – 61,788,000,000 won (~54.7 million USD), Operating Profit – 9,266,000,000 won (~8,201,447 USD), Net Profits – 4,471,000,000 won (~3,957,335 USD)].

SNSD becomes muses of high fashion for ‘W’

he ladies of SNSD challenged themselves by shooting an interesting pictorial for fashion magazine, ‘W‘. For this shoot, SNSD took on the role of iconic muses of high fashion.

In order to show the individual charisma of each member, the magazine brought in a team of their best editors, wardrobe coordinators, hair and makeup stylists, and photographers.

Each girl was assigned a different fashion icon element, and it was reported that both the staff and the girls were very pleased with the results.

The editor confessed, “We were surprised by the members’ understanding of high fashion.‘

Tiffany revealed, ‘Even though I don’t have a lot of experience wearing red lipstick, it was fun getting a new look for this shoot.‘

Although the girls have got their hands full with their Korean and Japanese promotions (as well as adjusting to a recent injury), they were able to complement each other well throughout the photoshoot and created a warm atmosphere on the set.

The photoshoot will be revealed in its entirety on the December issue of ‘W’.

SME and JYPE deny Taecyeon and Jessica dating rumors

Relationship rumors have been swirling around 2PM’s Taecyeon and SNSD’s Jessica on internet community sites, and it’s gotten hyped to such a point that both companies have stepped forward AGAIN to make an official statement about the supposed couple.

Taecyeon’s agency, JYP Entertainment, stated to Star News on November 18th, “All members of 2PM and SNSD are close to one another in general. Jessica and Taecyeon specifically have a close friendship, but they are definitely not dating.”

Jessica’s agency, SM Entertainment, gave a similar response by stating, “Jessica and Taecyeon are close friends. Rumors of them dating are groundless.”

Taeyeon is the most popular SNSD member amongst woman

A portal site Ezday ran a survey from October 22nd to November 1st. It surveyed 1913 women and asked them which Girls’ Generation member was their favorite.

Taeyeon won first place with 22% of the votes. Yoona was second with 18%, and Seohyun 3rd with 14%. The members that followed were Yuri with 11%, Sunny with 8%, Jessica with 7%, Tiffany with 7%, and Sooyoung with 7%. Hyoyeon placed last with 6% of the votes.

The netizens explained that it was because Taeyeon has talent. As female audiences to a female group, they looked not for visuals but for talent, and most agreed that Taeyeon was the most talented out of the nine members.

Taeyeon Hated "Gee" and "Hoot" Song

At first, Girls' Generation wasn't as popular as they are now. In fact, Girls' Generation was constantly running behind the Wonder Girls. This all changed when they released "Gee", a hit single that swept the nation and set a record for number of weeks it placed first on the charts.

However, not everyone liked "Gee". In fact, Taeyeon hated it so much that when she heard it, she cried because she didn't want to sing it. Taeyeon added that she hated both Gee and Hoot, and yet both songs are popular. She said that the only song she liked that they promoted was "Run Devil Run".

It seems that Taeyeon doesn't like the styles that are associated with "Gee" and "Hoot", but prefers the opposite style that they used for the concept of "Run Devil Run". Does this mean that Girls' Generation might promote more "dark concept" songs in the future?

Wow! that was a surprise. Two big hit songs but the leader doesn't even want to sing it. Since "Gee" and "Hoot" are kinda girly type of songs and "Run Devil Run" have a dark concept, does this mean SNSD will perform songs with that will have a dark concept in their mini albums/albums?

Following the release of the MV teaser for SNSD’s Taeyeon’s duet with The One, called, “Like a Star“, the official MV has finally been released!

SM Entertainment recently revealed, “We received a request from The One to do a duet, and Taeyeon decided to take up the opportunity.”

The MV follows a heartbreaking love story, and it stars actors Yoo Seung Ho and Park Eun Bin.
