Who are the most expensive CF stars?

On January 5th, TV Report released the data results they’ve compiled from various advertisement and model contracting companies in order to find the most expensive celebrity figures of 2011.

The data they’ve published were updated as of January 2011, and consists of appearance and contract fees paid to singers for year-long contracts.

So who are the most expensive CF stars?

According to the results, Rain and Big Bang were classified under ‘Special A Class’ in the industry, and are both worth $1 million to $1.5 million USD.

2PM, SNSD, Lee Hyori, and 2NE1 were placed in the $800,000 to $900,000 USD sector, while BoA followed at $700,000 to $800,000 USD.

Lee Seung Gi, Kim Hyun Joong, Jay Park, Super Junior, JYJ, Son Dambi, and the Wonder Girls placed at $500,000 to $600,000 USD.

2AM, CNBLUE, KARA, 4minute, MBLAQ, and After School (excluding UEE)are worth a minimum of $400,000 USD. After School’s UEE exceeds that amount.

IU, FT Island, Seo In Young, and SECRET were revealed to have been in discussion for $200,000 to $300,000 USD.

Of course, the true worth of a star cannot be determined by numbers, but the numbers give better insight into the commercial aspect of the stars.

Top 10 Korean entertainment stories in 2010

The Korean entertainment in 2010 was marked by the surge of the popularity of K-pop and Korean films advancing in the international arena.

However, the K-pop music scene was rocked by controversies, including the issues surrounding popular boy bands TVXQ, 2PM and SS501.

Here are the top 10 stories that have made significant impact in the Korean entertainment last year. (omitted parts irrelevant to SNSD.)

4. K-pop invades Japan - More K-pop groups debuted in the lucrative Japanese music market. Several years ago, TVXQ and BoA paved the way for the entry of K-pop music in Japan. Big Bang has also become popular there. In 2010, Girls Generation, KARA and 2PM also debuted in Japan while FT Island debuted as a mainstream group.

8. Girls Generation dominates K-pop industry - Nine-member Girls Generation dominated the K-pop industry in 2010 based on album sales and popularity. The girl group won the grand prize in the 25th Golden Disk Awards in addition to numerous awards it received in 2010. Online music site Monkey3 cited Girl Generation’s “Oh” as the No. 1 Best Song in 2010. Hanteo, another online music site, bestowed the 2010 Best Singer Award to Girls Generation. SNSD & KARA named ‘New Artist of the Year’ by “25th Japan Gold Disc Awards”

2010 was an interesting year for the Japanese music industry, as they were introduced to two of Korea’s hottest girl groups – SNSD (a.k.a. ‘Shoujo Jidai‘) and KARA.

Although they already had support from their Japanese fanbase, these girls managed to win the hearts of general music fans; they not only placed highly on the charts, but they also walked away with a distinguished award each from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

At the “25th Japan Gold Disc Awards“, KARA and SNSD were named as Japan’s “New Artist of the Year” – KARA received the ‘International’ award, and SNSD attained the ‘Domestic’ award.

The “Japan Gold Disc Awards” was first launched in 1987 to recognize outstanding artists (and works) that have contributed to the Japanese recording industry. Awards are based on the actual sales number, and 2010’s winners utilized data from January 1st ~ October 31st.

Congratulations, ladies!

What is SNSD’s Seohyun’s simple request?

MBC’s New Year’s special edition of “Come To Play“, which will air on January 3rd, had some special guests for the episode, as SNSD made a guest appearance on the show and shared a few funny and touching moments.

Yuri, Seohyun, Sooyoung, and Yoona were the girls in attendance, and Sooyoung revealed, “Right after our debut, Seohyun told our manager that she wanted to visit the Kyung Bok Gong palace in Seoul with her friends while wearing hanboks.

Seohyun responded by saying, “We’ve never been there and someday I know that I will go,” showing her determination. Her class monitor character cracked the studio up.

SNSD’s Seohyun meets her mother-in-law on “We Got Married”

It’s one of the hardest meetings a girl will have to make, but SNSD’s Seohyun took a deep breath and tried to deliver a first impression that would do her husband proud.

For MBC’s “We Got Married“, Seohyun and her ‘husband’ (CNBLUE’s Jung Yonghwa) travelled to Busan recently to meet his family. In an effort to make a positive first impression, Seohyun tried her best to learn the provincial dialect and certain gestures indigenous to Busan, in addition to showing a bigger appetite than normal.

The couple was greeted by Yonghwa’s mother upon their arrival, and visited a sushi restaurant for a meal.

Their meeting, and whether Seohyun received a passing score as a ‘daughter-in-law’ can be found on the episode scheduled for December 8th.

In Communist China... Song Hye Gyo is single, Yoona does porn.

The interest in Korean entertainment from Chinese media has seem to gone a bit overboard.

One Chinese paper claimed, "Korean top stars Song Hye Gyo and Hyun Bin have broken up." They reported that the reason for the break up was that the two could not meet often. They concluded their reasoning for stating so is because Hyun Bin did not thank Song Hye Gyo when he won an award at the 2010 SBS Acting Awards. Also included was the fact that Song Hye Gyo was silent during a question regarding Hyun Bin at a Taiwanese press conference.

It doesn't end there. The Chinese media has stated, "Yoona in Adult Video" due to the fact that someone that looks similar to her was in a Japanese adult video titled 美脚傳說. The stars of the movie are also on the cover wearing similar marine outfits to what SNSD was wearing during their "Genie" activities. This media outlet have also stated, "Yoona got plastic surgery on her eyes, nose, and lips which is why her face looks different." This plastic surgery accusation has also caused much surprise.

Once such false and malicious reports were made rather than Song Hye Gyo, Hyun Bin, or SM Entertainment, it is the netizens that are more upset. Some users commented, "They causing malicious scars. We can't just let them be." "They are beyond facts. I'm flabbergasted more than anything. I don't think I can trust Chinese media." "I'm thankful that they're interested in Korean entertainers, but I hope they would stop reporting such lies as if they were facts..."

Idols reveal their filial acts on MBC’s “Come to Play”

A bevy of top idol groups made their appearance on MBC’s “Come to Play” today, and competed against each other to earn the title of ‘the most filial son/daughter.’

The episode focused on revealing the dutiful acts the idols have done for their parents and featured stars such as SNSD, Super Junior’s Lee Teuk and Yesung, B2ST’s Ki Kwang and Yoseob, andMBLAQ’s Lee Joon and Mir.

SNSD’s Seohyun, who’s known for her upright character, started off the discussion by revealing her self-sufficiency. ”I think that the way I respect my parents is by doing what I’m supposed to do on my own. From my mother’s perspective, she probably wants to take care of her young and busy daughter as much as she can, but I told her not to worry about it because I can do it on my own. I think that unfortunately made her more upset because I was forced to mature so early.”

She continued, “Of course, other physical presents are just as precious, but as their daughter, I think growing up without being fussy is a bigger present for them. I will become a daughter that works hard on improving herself and does not make her parents worry.”

Reflecting on Seohyun’s response, fellow member Yuri commented, “Seohyun would be a good daughter, but not as mine. She knows what she has to do on her own, where’s the fun in that?

MBLAQ’s Mir, who’s known to be the son of a farming family, revealed that he bought his family four cows. He stated, “My family lives in the countryside, and the rivalry between the front and back house is quite strong. I wanted my dad to feel steady and confident. I was going to buy him two cows, but the house behind us bought three, so I bought him four.”

Super Junior’s Yesung revealed his own story by stating, “I’ve lived away from my parents for a long time. I’ve always wanted to live with them, and one day, they came down to Seoul. I opened up a small store for them.” After receiving a round of applause, he continued, “It’s a small restaurant, but I forgot to think of my mother’s health. She has a hard time working in the kitchen, so I’m trying to look for ways to convert it into a cafe.

SNSD’s Sooyoung confessed, “These days, my mom keeps telling me to date. This year, I’m going to be a filial daughter and finally get a boyfriend that fits her expectations.

Sunny also brought laughter to the studio when she joked, “The fact that I was even born is a filial act!”More seriously, she continued, “My mother was in bad health after she gave birth to me, but she fought to live on in order to raise me.

Hyoyeon revealed, “I registered a housing premium under all of the names of my family.” Reflecting to a time when she didn’t feel as comfortable on variety shows, she said, “When you appear on TV programs like this, you have to say a lot of things and such, but even up to six months ago, I wasn’t able to. I feel like that wasn’t a very filial act towards my parents. I didn’t have a lot of confidence in talking on variety programs so it was hard for them to see me on TV. I fixed my pronunciation by reading books and learned to improve myself.”

Later on in the program, the idol boys attempted to earn the hearts of the SNSD members. Mir bragged,“I have a 400-pyeong sized house in our backyard. In the Bang household, we have eight mountains and dogs and cows that cover our entire mountain.”

Super Junior’s Lee Teuk attempted to capture he ladies’ hearts by bragging, “I’m the first idol MC. I’m a fixed cast member on seven programs, and tour 15 Asian countries on the weekends.”

Yesung bragged about his philtrum (the indent above the upper lip) by stating, “They say you’ll live a long life when your philtrum is long. I’m a man better than a diamond, I last forever.”

Finally, B2ST’s Ki Kwang showed off his bow to the camera in the hopes of charming SNSD’s parents, and then began showing off his strength, leading the SNSD members to burst out in laughter.

In the end, the couples that paired up were Yoona and Yesung, Yuri and Mir, Seohyun and Lee Teuk, Sooyoung and Gil, Hyoyeon and Lee Joon, and Taeyeon and Lee Haneul.

Taeyeon and Lee Haneul ended up winning the grand prize through a quiz battle. After winning, Taeyeon stated, “I think I was able to earn this ‘filial award’ because I was part of a couple with Haneul oppa. I’m thankful for Haneul oppa!

The special episode recorded 14.1% in viewer ratings according to AGB Nielsen Media Research, a 0.3% rise compared to last week’s episode.
