MBC to air Christmas music special, starring SNSD

MBC is currently in the works of creating a special music show, ‘SNSD’s Christmas Fairy Tale‘.

A representative from MBC stated, “‘SNSD’s Christmas Fairy Tale’ will be a music show with a specific concept. The girls will be able to do all the things they’ve always dreamed about doing on stage. Events may include such things like duet performances, however, nothing has been finalized as of now“.

The program will not be a full-length series with an organized format; rather, it’s a special event scheduled to air one-time on December 24th at 12:20AM KST.

It’s rare for a broadcasting company to create a music show for just one individual artist. The fact that MBC is embarking on this new project only further proves just how popular these girls really are. SNSD has also been selected to be the main feature of a new entertainment program on jTBC, and they have been actively promoting themselves on various variety programs as well.

SNSD returned with their full-length third album in October and will be promoting their follow-up track “Mr. Taxi” starting December.

New still-cuts of SNSD’s YoonA in ‘Love Rain’

Anticipation for PD Yoon Suk Ho‘s new drama, ‘Love Rain‘, just got kicked up a notch thanks to new still-cuts of SNSD‘s YoonA.

‘Love Rain’ is the first collaboration project in 10 years between PD Yoon Suk Ho and screenwriter Oh Soo Yeon, who are famous for their Hallyu classics like ‘Autumn Tale‘ and ‘Winter Sonata‘. YoonA will be playing two roles: ‘Kim Yoon Hee‘, a neat, innocent beauty from the 1970′s, and her daughter, ‘Ha Roo‘, a bright, loveable girl in the present.

YoonA revealed, “Because this is the first project I am doing in a long time, I feel the pressure and responsibility [to do well], alongside anticipation and thrills. Through the unfamiliar set, costumes, and props, I feel like I am indirectly experiencing the campus life of youths during the 1970′s. I think that it is a very enjoyable and fascinating project.”

‘Love Rain’, which portrays the pure emotions of love during the ’70s and the trendy love of today’s society, is planning to air during the first half of 2012.

Girls' Generation Reveals Christmas Visuals for J.Estina!

After showing their power in Asia, Europe, and the United States, Girls’ Generation members have revealed Christmas visuals that put emphasis on each of their personalities.
Wearing vividly colored skirts matched with spangled bags, the members showed a lovely image for J.Estina’s advertisement. The bag chosen for this Christmas visual is a backpack from the “Angelica” line, which Hyoyeon had chosen in a previously aired CF.
The Angelica mini shoulder bag chosen has shiny spangles, which show a natural two-tone depending on what direction light touches the spangles. The shoulder bag’s design was influenced by shining tiaras, which give a mysterious feel depending on the angles they are viewed from.
Song Jiwon, of the J.estina brand strategic team, stated, “After Girls’ Generation’s previous visual advertisement, customers have been asking about the products and we even had reserved sales. We are looking forward to what type of effect Girls’ Generation’s Christmas visual advertisement will have.”
The Christmas bag Girls’ Generation chose can be found in J.Estina stores in December.

A Review of the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards

The 2011 Mnet Asian Music Award (MAMA) which was held at Singapore’s Indoor Stadium on November 29th was a smashing success.

This year’s MAMA by far exceeded the expectations of the viewers and audience members alike. The stage was created to model the Chinese character for ‘Human‘, and appeared to be an enormous space station. The slogan for this year’s MAMA was ‘Music Makes One‘, meaning all the Asians in the world are able to become one through the medium of music.

The glamourous stage was fit for any large concert, and the event was well-directed, Mnet living up to their title as a professional music channel. The star-studded line up of celebrities more than impressed the 10,000 guests that gathered for the show.

The first performance was one by rockband YB, followed by hip hop group Dynamic Duo as well asSimon D, causing the audience to go wild from the get-go.

A collaboration performance of Chinese pianist Lang Lang and B2ST received an explosive response from the fans, and a sensual kiss performance by Trouble Maker, a unit made up of B2ST’s Jang Hyun Seung and 4Minute‘s HyunA, left the crowd surprised but thrilled. miss A delivered a special performance of “Goodbye Baby Goodbye“, including folding fans and martial arts moves in their choreography. A performance of Kim Hyun Joong‘s “Lucky Guy“and 2NE1 with “I Am The Best” was enough to leave the audience members overwhelmed.

The performances by artists overseas was equally impressive. J-POP star Koda Kumi lived up to her title as ‘Performance queen’, captivating the audience with her vocals and followed it up with a sexy and powerful performance. Legendary west coast rappers Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg performed “The Next Episode“.

Furthermore, the rousing cheers continued with will.i.am performing “The Hardest Ever” andapl.de.ap‘s performance of “We Can Do Anything“. The crowd went wild when the two continued to perform the Black Eyed Peas‘ hit song “Where is the Love” with 2NE1′s CL.

The outstanding performances only continued.

The ladies of SNSD hung from high swings on stage, a performance only seen at their previous independent concert, surprising the MAMA guests and fans alike. Super Junior garnered the attention of each audience member as they put on their performance, going back and forth from the audience members and the stage. 100 back dancers joined them in the end to put on a Blockbuster movie-like performance that was extremely well-synchronized.

But that wasn’t all. 2NE1, B2ST, miss A, Dynamic Duo, A Pink, and more showcased their individual charms and unique colors to continuously receive an explosive response from the fans. The Super Star K3 contestants also performed on stage including Christina, Two Months, Son Yerim and of course, the winners- Ooh La La Session. Various artists also collaborated to perform by genre and by group, an event that can only be seen at the MAMA.

With the increasing popularity of Korean movies and drama’s, the top Hallyu actors and actresses were also in attendance. The lineup included international star Lee Byung Hun, as well as Kim Hee Sun,Song Seung Hun, Han Hyo Joo, Yoon Eunhye, Han Chae Young, Song Joong Ki, Kim Su Hyun,Nam Gyuri, Park Siyeon, Gong Hyung Jin, Kim Sung Soo, Yoon Seung Ah, Oh Jiho, and more. These stars presented the awards during the actual ceremony, and their attendance alone was enough to once again drive the crowd wild.

This year’s MAMA proved that it was not just another award ceremony. It further emphasized the impact of popular idols today. The awards went to the top Hallyu stars, and different from last year’s show which only consisted of a few different entertainment labels, top management company SM Entertainment was in attendance to bring up the atmosphere.

SM Entertainment artists such as SNSD and Super Junior performed to further enrich the show. The SNSD ladies put on a re-made, faster version of “The Boys” while Super Junior performed “Mr. Simple” and “Sorry Sorry“, both phenomenal tracks with intense beats.

This was the second MAMA to be held overseas after last year’s event in Macau, and Mnet feels proud to have accomplished such a large and spectacular stage. A representative from CJ E&M remarked, “We started planning for this project since early July. We are thrilled to receive such an explosive reaction from the fans“.

CJ E&M plans to put on a grammy-like award ceremony next year, and they are also pushing ahead for a performance overseas.

CJ E&M head representative Kim Sung Soo stated during a press conference, “We want to create a music festival that exceeds the standards of the Grammys in America. We will not stop at only Asian Music, but will continue to incorporate more and more American music as well“.
