[News] First celebrities to have their own gift certificate “SNSD gift cards”

For the first time in Korean celebrity history, SNSD gift certificate will be made.

According to a member of the gift certificate company, gift cards with pictures of SNSD will soon be published.
There will be 10 different types of cards, 9 of them featuring solo shots of each member of the SNSD while the
10th card showings a group picture. Each card will be worth 10,000won(equivalent to about 9$) and people can use
these card to purchase oil.

The company member also stated that the new SNSD gift certificates will allow the consumers to collect all 10
different types of gift cards if they purchase 10 gift cards at once(equal to 100,000won).

The member of the company predicted that, “Even though these were meant to be used as oil gift certificates, it’s
very likely to be just used as part of consumer’s collections.” Then continued on saying, “Recently, it’s been shown
that SNSD has also become very popular in Japan so it’s possible that these gift cards may be used as souvenirs.”

At the end, the company announced that the depending on the public's reactions to SNSD, they may include other
celebrities and expand.

[News] Girl groups' fates in Japan will be decided this fall

Korean girl groups will be riding the neo-Hallyu wave into Japan through October and November.

Shojo Jidai, KARA and 4minute will continue their activities in Japan after gaining results that exceeded expectations with successive single and album releases throughout the month of October in what some are calling a second round of "air-raids on the Japanese islands."

Idols Arashi, SMAP, AKB48 and others will certainly fill the year-end top 5 and top 10 charts. It is probably best to say that the girl groups' successes can be described as the "best of the newcomers," rather than the best of the best.

Following Shojo Jidai is 4minute, who will be releasing their 3rd single on October 27, entitled "First/DREAMS COME TRUE." 4minute ventured into Japan before Shojo Jidai and KARA, but comparing 4minute's results to those two, their success has been somewhat sluggish. However, "First/DREAMS COME TRUE" will be their first single since the Korean girl group boom hit Japan, so there is a feeling of high expectation for this single.

Girl group KARA will follow, with the release a single in November called, "Jumping," which will be the group's first original Japanese song. Their latest album, which was a best of, hit the Oricon charts at #2, with the highest debut album sales this year. KARA is planning on releasing a regular album shortly after that, which may fortify their success.

However, the truth of the matter is that currently, the success of these girl groups is due to fans of K-POP as a whole, not fans of the individual groups, in general. Rather than fans of the girl groups increasing, there is a general sense of an expansion of the number of K-POP fans. But the future of K-POP girl groups will be decided by their performance this fall.

[News] SNSD To Release Book In Japan

SNSD will release their book “SNSD Information Record” (Tentative Title) in November for 1050yen (~13USD).

This work will feature SNSD’s sayings with pictures, details on their activities up until now, member introductions with comments, photos and the member’s secrets to fashion styling.

SNSD is still a new idol group in Japan, so releasing this kind of book is rare. It isn’t a simple photobook, it includes frank comments from the members and fans have high expectations for it.

SNSD released their Japanese debut song “GENIE” in September. Currently, it has sold 75,000 copies and has been placed at rank #4 on ORICON’s monthly chart. Also, on the 20th they will expand their activities with the release their 2nd single “Gee”.
