A Look at SNSD's Favorite Nail Salon and Styles

At SNSD's favorite nail salon, you'll see lots of cute decor, lots of celebrity autographs, and lots of girls getting their nails done. What you won't see are any bottles of nail polish. Um, what? That's because BUB Nail Salon specializes exclusively in soak-off gel polish. Gel polish is a special type of color that comes that comes in a pot. Like regular nail polish, it is painted on with a brush and can be applied to natural or artificial nails, but unlike regular polish, it is set with a special UV lamp. The UV light dries the polish completely within minutes, so there's no worry about smudging or denting. But the real selling point is that gel polish lasts two to three weeks without chipping. So the SNSD ladies only needs to come in every three weeks (which they do), as opposed to every week. Oh, and we should mention that BUB isn't just given the SNSD stamp of approval. As soon as you enter the salon, you'll see pictures of BoA's crazy nail art everywhere. And the celebrity autographs that adorn the wall include those of Jin Jae Young, Hwang Shin Hye, and LPG!

Celebrity nail care must be expensive, right? Well, it can be -- owner Ai Shigeyama says that elaborate nail art can cost up to 300,000 won ($265 USD)! But a basic color-only manicure is much more affordable, ranging in between 30,000 to 50,000 won ($27-45 USD). I know, some of you are thinking, "Well, a regular nail polish manicure is cheaper!" But just remember that the gel manicure lasts at least twice as long as a regular manicure, so the additional cost may well be worth it. Plus, isn't it an extra bonus if one of the SNSD members is getting her nails done right next to you? We're not kidding! Ai doesn't play favorites, and she laughed when we asked if celebrities were afforded special treatment. She told us that the girls will just sit down at the communal table like everyone else to get their nails done, while other clients look over and remark on how pretty they are. Sounds like the girls are pretty down-to-earth, then.

So if you were to sit down at BUB, and if you were to check out the girl next to you and realize that it's Tiffany or YoonA or Hyoyeon, you'd probably notice that she's not just getting a simple color manicure; she's almost certainly getting some cute bling affixed to her nails. According to Ai, all the celebrities favor nail art. She says that the SNSD members prefer different styles, and that you can really see how their personalities come through in the styles they choose. She says that Hyoyeon prefers really cutesy designs, while Yuri goes for a clean look. There's actually a case devoted to some of the exact styles the girls have worn recently, as well as some official photos from the BUB Nail blog. How would you describe their nail styles? Which girl has the your favorite look?

Gorgeous, right? But the woman behind these fantastic and intricate designs is totally modest about them. Just like her nail salon, Ai is totally down-to-earth! She's an entrepreneurial mom who found herself with some free time once her daughters had grown up, and decided to fill the void by opening up a nail salon. She didn't start out being a nail guru -- in fact, the reason she first started getting into nail care was because she was a nail biter! She thought that if she got professional manicures, it would stop her from biting her nails. (No word on whether this tactic actually succeeded.) She observed the manicurists at work and thought that she could do it herself. So she trained at home in Japan and opened up two shops, one in Seoul and one in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. Currently she splits her time between both countries. Any differences between the shops? Ai says that her Japanese clients tend to favor outrageous and crazy nail art, while her Korean clients prefer more conservative designs. But the vogue in Korea may be changing: SNSD is usually eager to add more art to their nails, and of course, these girls are real trendsetters. Customers sometimes come in and request the same styles.

And if we may get in a word about the safety of gel manicures: We've done some research and it seems like there's no official word on the safety of the UV light -- some sources say that gel manicures are completely safe if done by a professional, while others advise people not to take risks. But one fact that's confirmed is that some inferior salons do imitation gel manicures that has been shown to cause damage to the nerves. And a lesser worry is that the removal of the gel polish can take a temporary toll on the nail bed. Whatever choice you make, research your options thoroughly!

If you're in Korea and you want to stop by, you can either drop in or you can make an appointment. Ai says it's best to schedule ahead, as BUB can get busy, especially on the weekends. But if you're not in Korea, there are always other options for SNSD-style nails!

Krystal and Seohyun reveal new ‘Clean & Clear’ CF

f(x)’s Krystal and SNSD’s Seohyun have teamed up once again to release another CF for ‘Clean & Clear‘!

The short CF advertises the brand’s ‘Deep Action Blackhead Cleanser’, which Seohyun recommends to Krystal after hearing her woes about her blackheads. To demonstrate, Seohyun expertly washes her face, revealing her pure, baby-soft skin.

The two girls wrap up with CF with a cheerful reminder: “(Keep your skin) Clean, Pure, and Confident!

Check out the video below!

"SNSD's Luxurious Skin is... All Thanks To Soaking Our Bodies"!

Has there ever been a make-up model that became such a hot topic? This is about the 6 SNSD members (excluding Taeyeon, Seohyun, and Yoona) that became the new spring models for Dior. Before the official announcement from Dior, there were many discussions amongst netizens for and against this on forums and on Twitter saying, "Do designer brands fit SNSD?", and, "Why can't idols do it?" There were also comments reading, "With all their samchon fans, would SNSD be able to target people in their own age group?" This was an aftershock for becoming a model for a well-known, foreign make-up brand, which had previously been modeled by the best actresses of the time.

We met the girls at a recent photoshoot. Unlike others responses, the actual girls seemed to be taking it well. "Isn't a model bettering the product's image all they should do?" (Hyoyeon) "Just because we become the model, doesn't mean we're telling our fans to buy it. There's no reason for a samchon fan to buy women's make-up just because of us." (Sunny) It seemed like the atmosphere was becoming heavy, but Jessica made a comment. "Oh my, people were saying that? Did you guys know about it? Did you?" Everyone burst out laughing at that moment. We got to listen to them talk about beauty and fashion.

"We risk our lives to use the bathroom first"

With their debut in Japan last year, SNSD's schedule has become busier than ever. 'Beauty tactics' to sleep well and get less stress don't work for them. Instead, drinking lots of water is a must. Each member drinks about 15 1L bottles of water a day. "It may sound like something out of a textbook, but water is the best. It helps your skin and balances your body." (Sooyoung)

Tiffany, who said she puts the most effort in skincare, revealed her 'beauty secret'. Even when they go to the hair salon early at the break of dawn, she always puts on sunscreen and doesn't just go to sleep no matter how late they get home. She is not satisfied with putting on skin, essence, eye cream, and moisture cream, and finishes it off with a sleeping pack (a moisture pack one can go to sleep in right after applying). When asked if she isn't going overboard since she is young and her skin should be fine, Yuri gave a sullen answer. "We're under such strong lights for a long time, it's a lot easier for our skin to get damaged compared to others in our age group."

Bathing one's lower body is the best beauty habit all the members suggest. This is because loosening muscles in the shoulders and legs that are knotted from a days work prevents pimples. And, they never forget to wash their faces with cold water at the end. "There are times where we would have to leave right after getting washed up because of early schedules the next day. So the members put their lives on winning at paper-scissors-rock to use the bathroom at night." (Sunny)

SNSD Diet Menu, Never Even Did It Before

All the members waved their hands at a question asking about the truth behind the recently revealed 'SNSD diet menu'. This is about 'having a daily 1500kcal restriction by eating chicken breast, brown rice, and vegetables'. Tiffany said, "Maybe if it was 1500kcal per meal. We eat like we're a mobile convenience store even in our dressing rooms." One thing they do before an album jacket shoot or award ceremony is 'last-minute dieting'. Not eating after 6 PM for about a week or 10 days before the event is effective.

They also said there is no special secret behind the 'fantastic legs' title that follows their group name. "I think we're just born with it. There were a lot of times where we went on stage with swollen legs. But there is a bit of exaggeration. Because we put Sooyoung, who has the longest, prettiest legs in the middle, the rest of our legs look good." (Yuri) "That's right. If you want to look pretty, you have to continue to study yourself. From the position of your legs, to the angle of your face, you have to learn and practice what's best for you." (Hyoyeon)

Best Fashionista is Sooyoung

Colorful skinny jeans, baseball jumpers, striped t-shirts... SNSD became 'style icons' for the fashion they popularize with every single they release. However, their everyday attire is similar to their peers. They usually wear black skinny jeans, or leggings under a knit or hoodie. "We're a bit sloppy today. We're usually not this bad..." Yuri usually wears black and white, or other neutral colored clothes and uses accesories to add onto her outfit, giving off a 'cha-do-nyuh' (cold city girl) style. Tiffany usually wears knitted one pieces that show off her body. "After entering my 20s, I don't like wearing showy clothes. I prefer wearing ordinary clothes and putting more attention on bags, hats, and other accessories." (Tiffany)

When asked which member is the real 'fashionista' in the group, they all chose Sooyoung. Because whether they go to eat or watch a movie, she wears a completed outfit. The members made compliments like, 'it's like a shot from a pictorial when anything is thrown on a model-like body', and also exposing remarks such as, 'she buys 1 piece of clothing every minute' and, 'you practically live in the mall'. "It's because I share all my clothes, shoes, and purses with my mom and sister..." A flustered Sooyoung tried to make an awkward justification. Then they were asked which member is the most indifferent when it comes to dressing up. Before the question was over, all their eyes moved towards Sunny.

New Seohyun and Krystal CF for Clean & Clear

Clean & Clear has released yet another CF featuring Seohyun and f(x)'s Krystal.

This time, the CF starts off with Krystal worrying about blackheads during a radio recording session. Displaying her natural aegyo, Seohyun demonstrates the power of Clean & Clear's cleanser while showing off her pure skin. This is a definitely a series of commercials to keep track of if you're a fan of both f(x) and Girls' Generation!

G-Dragon reveals drunken story and his favorite SNSD member

Yesterday we reported that Big Bang leader G-Dragon would share an embarrassing drunk story onSBS’s variety show “Strong Heart.” Well, the show just aired and the full story has been revealed.

G-Dragon explained, “I normally can’t drink alcohol very well, but there was a day when I drank a lot more than usual because it was a friend’s birthday at a bowling alley. To me, I thought that I just got drunk, played quietly, and went home.” However, things went differently than what he initially thought as it was revealed that because of his drunkenness, he performed a funny makchum dance in front ofSNSD members YoonA, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, and Sooyoung.

G-Dragon stated that he was very surprised when he learned of this because he’s not usually the type of person who would do those kind of things.

After this revelation, G-Dragon played a round of “Ideal Type World Cup” with the four SNSD members he performed this dance in front of (YoonA, Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Hyoyeon). After it was all said and done, G-Dragon ultimately picked YoonA as his ideal type.

Check out a portion of the segment below:

G-Dragon picks SNSD’s Yoona as his ideal and danced in front of SNSD!

On ‘Ideal-Type-World-Cup’, G.Dragon picked YoonA as his ideal type over the other 3 SNSD members – Tiffany, SooYoung, and Hyoyeon.

On the episode of “Strong Heart” aired on the 22nd, G.Dragon revealed an incident that happened during his friend’s birthday. He went bowling with his friends, and because he was drunk, he performed a comical dance [막춤 (makchum)] in front of SNSD.

G.Dragon stated “I’m not really close with SNSD members. However, when I heard afterwards that I danced in front of YoonA, Tiffany, HyoYeon, and SooYoung, I was pretty surprised. I’m not usually a person who would do those kind of things.”

As Kang Hodong was listening the story, he asked G.Dragon who, amongst YoonA, Tiffany, SooYoung, and HyoYeon, is his ideal type.

G.Dragon picked YoonA as the final winner. Upon the request of a video message, G.Dragon said “I really don’t know why they are telling me to convey this message. The last time we met at a bowling game, I made some mistakes. I’m usually not like that.”
