Style Coverage: Oversized Coat

Spotted: pastel oversized coat!  The oversized coat has been one of the biggest trends in the fall of 2013.  Not only is it featured on the runway, it is also a trend that is apparent in Korean dramas and Prime Minister and I is no different.  Nam Da Jeong (YoonA) wears a purplish pink oversized coat with a bow blouse to add a more feminine touch.  The pastel colour lightens up the look as oversize coats can look a little bulky and heavy.

Want to get her look?  You can try some of these pieces below!
(Left to right, top to bottom)
1. ZARA, Mohair Coat
2. ZARA, Boucle Coat
3. Topshop, Wool Skirted Coat
4. French Connection, Glorious Wool Oversized Coat
1. ZARA, Silk Blouse with Bow
2. Dynamite, Printed Crepe Bow Blouse
3. H&M, Bow Blouse
4. Victoria's Secret, Bow Blouse

SOME TIPS FOR PICKING AN OVERSIZED COAT:

1. Pick something with more structure
The silhouette of an oversized coat is not an easy one to pull off.  It is often inspired by menswear and hides feminine curves.  Pick one that has a flattering cut that accentuates the body despite being, yes, oversized.

2. Pick a lighter colour
A pretty colour will lighten up your look especially when you're covered in too much fabric!

Chrome Entertainment denies allegations of Crayon Pop's rudeness against Girls' Generation

The girls of Crayon Pop recently drew some disapproving eyes when a video appeared to show member Way forcefully pushing Girls' Generation's Sunny when they were onstage together, nearly making her bite the pavement.

However, Chrome Entertainment denied that Way had ever done anything to provoke Sunny. "Way did not push Sunny's back," they said. "If you look closely at the video instead of gifs or photos, you can find out what happened. At the same time that Tiffany pulled Sunny to her, Ellin pulled Way's arm in her direction. It looks like Way pushed Sunny as they happened at the same time, but she did not push her."

Check out the video for yourself - what do you think happened? (Crayon Pop is in green.)

On the January 26th episode of “Fashion King Korea”, Tiffany gave a special cover of Ariana Grande’s “The Way”. Last week, Seohyun was a special guest on the show and helped model Tiffany’s designs. Before the episode aired, the show’s official Facebook posted a preview photo of Tiffany’s stage, seen above.

Dressed in pink, Tiffany gave an outstanding performance with an acoustic guitar accompanying her. Tiffany’s voice was a perfect fit for “The Way”, and she sang with confidence as she captured the attention of her fellow cast and the audience in attendance. Following her song, the model for Tiffany and Ji Ilgeun’s team walked the runway with the pretty black dress the two designers created.

SBS also uploaded a number of short clips from the show. In the clip above, Tiffany is seen backstage busily making final preparations for her dress design while getting her hair and makeup done all at the same time. Because this was the semi-final episode, only two of the three teams remaining would move on to the final round. It was announced first that SISTAR’s Bora and her partner received second place for the episode and would be participating in the finals. Tiffany congratulated her friend with applause and a hug.

Coming down to the final two teams, Tiffany and Ji Ilgeun unfortunately placed third and would not be moving onto the finals. The two congratulated the winners, with Tiffany again showing her close relationship with Kim Nayoung by giving her a hug. Alongside Ji Ilgeun, Tiffany gave her final words for the show, saying, “We were just about to get in sync with each other, but I already mentioned that I wanted to keep designing outfits even if the show is over, so we will keep working hard.” Though fans were certainly disappointed with the results, many expressed how proud they were of Tiffany. As she exited the stage, she continuously bowed and thanked the audience for their support throughout her run on the show.
Ji Ilgeun later tweeted about the time the duo shared on the show, saying, “Woke up to a lot of mentions. Yes, unfortunately, [we] completed ‘Fashion King Korea’ yesterday in third place. It was a grateful time where I was able to get to know the good person, Tiffany, and her great fans! Please continue to give me attention!” Tiffany’s speech and exit can be seen below, as well as a few pictures from the show.
Congratulations to Tiffany and her fashion designer partner, Ji Ilgeun, on all their amazing accomplishments on “Fashion King Korea”.

SONE Picture/Video of the Week
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9SH3YbP5iI
The girls have come a long way since 2007, and SONEs will never fail to remember that. This fanmade video takes us through their ups and downs through the years, ending with a reminder that even when this all ends, they will always be “forever Girls’ Generation”.

Forever Giving Happiness: Girls’ Generation and Märchen Fantasy

IMG_1581-edit

To my right, a man and his wife. To my left, a twenty-something girl. In front of me, a grandma and her young granddaughter. Myself, a foreigner in a new home. Singing “Forever” together to show Girls’ Generation how much they meant to us all, we were not really so different. We were all the kinds of fans that Girls’ Generation has, a collection of people from all walks of life and all parts of the planet, coming together for a concert that was touching, hilarious, amazing, sexy, cute, and unique all at once.

“Märchen Fantasy” was a joyous gathering of SONEs and Girls’ Generation that brought us everything from debut until now, complete with the girls’ original self introductions.
“I’m brighter than gems Fany Fany Tiffany.”
As much as the girls have grown, this concert was such a refreshing return to the style of concerts they used to do. Gone were the questionable outfits from the world tour. Instead, we got stylish and gorgeous white outfits. We got solo performances. We got sub-group performances. We got hits. We got presents that the girls threw out. Girls’ Generation showed everything they have.

When Seohyun came out, we were seeing her growing up in front of our eyes from a cute maknae to a stage commanding guitar player. When Sunny came out, she blew the socks off everyone in the room with Ga-In’s “Bloom”, a song that fits her so perfectly well. And it showed, being both cute and sexy at the same time, exactly like Sunny. However, Sooyoung’s cover of Sunmi’s song was filled with the most outrageously awesome hairflips I’ve ever seen her do, not to mention impeccable dancing and legs that went on for WAY more than 24 hours.

But then… Miss Korea Jessica Jung decided it was time to grace us mere mortals with her divine presence and remind us why she is a queen. You could hear thousands of fans gasp in one moment when she tore her dress to reveal the now- famous swimsuit. Truly, we were blessed on this day.

The concert had the loudest fan chants I’ve ever heard with “The Boys” and “I Got A Boy”, and Sooyoung’s “Yeah” in “GALAXY SUPERNOVA” was worth going to the concert just for that. All the songs were amazing, and the set list was as close to perfect as you can get. A cappella “Gee”? I mean come on, how can you top this? It was the best Girls’ Generation concert.
IMG_1497-edit

The thing about Korean concerts and Girls’ Generation is that it feels like the girls are just SO comfortable. It gives a different feel to not only their performances, but downtime between songs and their talks with each other and the audience. They really feel at home, and the crowd responds in kind. It’s such a good feeling to be a part of any pink ocean anywhere, but there is just something special about seeing Girls’ Generation in Korea that cannot be reproduced anywhere else. The special fan event holding signs that said “Thank you. We love you” and “We will give you only happiness” felt so appropriate, because as much as us fans meant those things, the members of Girls’ Generation showed us they felt the exact same way.

IMG_1572-edit

As the audience lights came on at the end, I stood looking at the empty stage and emptying seats, confetti that reminded me of the snow outside littering the ground. In that moment, I thought about how I came to be here. A journey started in 2011 with a 1 week trip with Soshified to see Girls’ Generation’s concert. Girls’ Generation, as much as I loved their music and TV shows, were so much more to me. They opened a door. More than that, they opened my eyes. Years ago, an idea was planted in my head. Soshiception. “I have to go back to Korea.” In 2011, I was only a visitor, a tourist seeing a show. In the waning days of 2013, I was part of a pink ocean that felt more like home. I was able to take a leap of faith and move my whole life to a new country.

IMG_1575-edit

When I left the concert, I wasn’t going to a hotel, or back to an airport, or anything exciting. I just got on the train and went home. That might have been the most precious moment of the concert experience for me. After years of searching for things I wanted in my life, I realized that Girls’ Generation was what ended up inspiring me the most. Without them, I wouldn’t be in Korea, and I wouldn’t have met people that have become very important to me and made this concert possible for me. Without them, I wouldn’t be as happy as I was in that moment singing “Forever” with a man and his wife, a girl, and a grandma and granddaughter. What a perfect song title.
