'Girls' Generation' on the verge of being named a 'Million certified' album


Girls’ Generation are on their way to break the 1 million copies mark for the sales of a single album in Japan.

As of January 5th, 1st Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’ which was released in June 2011, recorded sales of 680,000 copies, according to Oricon.

After being labeled as a ‘Double Platinum’ album for selling more than 500,000 copies, the sales of ‘Girls’ Genearation’ has been increasing at a consistent rate since the release of the repackaged album on December 28th, 2011 which includes remixes of ‘Mr. Taxi’, ‘The Boys (Japanese version)’ and new song, ‘Time Machine’. With the current rate of sales in Japan, it is just a matter of time before the girls’ very first Japanese album surpasses the 1 million copies mark.

Meanwhile, up till now,’Asia’s Star’ BoA is the only Korean artist who has ‘Million-certified’ albums in Japan. Boa’s 2nd Japanese album ‘Valenti’ which was released in January 2003 recorded sales of 1.24 million copies while her ‘Best of Soul’ album released in February 2005 sold 1.09 million copies.
