Girls' Generation Up for 9 Awards at MTV VMAJ

Nine-membered group Girls' Generation is up for three awards in this year's MTV VMA (Video Music Awards) Japan!

According to MTV on the 12th, Girls' Generation are contenders for the Best Group Video award, Best Video of the Year award, and the Best Karaokee! Song award at the upcoming MTV VMAJ to be held on June 25th in the Chiba, Japan.

After officially starting their activities in the neighboring country last summer, the girl idol group has already hit number one on the prestigious Oricon charts. Thus there are high expectations for them to do well at the awards ceremony.

More notably, the male idol group Big Bang had walked away with three awards at last year's VMAJ: Best Newbie award, Best Pop Song award, and Best Collaboration award. K-pop fans are hoping Girls' Generation will be another similar case in being winners of three awards.

The MTV VMAJ will be broadcast live in nine different countries icnluding Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. Popular acts like SHINee from Korea, Lady Gaga from the US, and AKB48 from Japan will be performing.

Following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March, this year the MTV VMAJ was retitled as Video Music Aid Japan.
