[Starcast] “‘Wall You Can’t Overcome’ Girls’ Generation Is Doing Well” The Moments Of the First Tokyo Dome

‘2014, many different things that happened, but we’re really happy to have been able to end this year with good people here. We won’t be able to forget 2014. Thank you’.

The last words at Girls’ Generation’s first Tokyo Dome concert; the fans’ replying yells were great. The dream-like stage that is even difficult for Japan’s best singers to perform at, the Tokyo Dome. It took 3 hours, along with the excitement and shouts of the 50,000 audience members that filled the venue, to realize why Girls’ Generation is called a ‘wall you can’t overcome’. Girls’ Generation’s first Tokyo Dome concert consisted of Girls’ Generation’s yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

We kept up with the moments in Girls’ Generation’s historical first Tokyo Dome concert.

# Girls’ Generation, they say everything with their performance

2014, December 9th, 6:30 pm. The Tokyo Dome was filled with pink light sticks that symbolize Girls’ Generation. The 50,000 fans who filled the audience started shouting Girls’ Generation, and Girls’ Generation appeared on stage and captured people’s attention at once.

164131733_2

This Girls’ Generation concert was one that you couldn’t take your eyes off of. With it being the fourth anniversary of their Japan debut, Girls’ Generation said they’d show everything they’ve promoted thus far. They showed various stages from songs that received lots of love like ‘Gee’, ‘GENIE’, ‘I Got A Boy’, to their Japanese singles. It was a great concert where you couldn’t miss a thing from the music to their performance, outfits, and stage direction.

Personally, the stages that left an impression were ‘T.O.P +The Boys+Reflection’. Despite them being songs that I’m not used to, as I don’t listen to much Japanese music, I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage. Watching them in their flashy outfits, perfecting their choreography with a stick, it seemed like a stage that said ‘We’re Girls’ Generation’ and let you feel their beautiful charisma.

164134266_5

I also can’t leave out the musical-like stage opened in Girls’ Generation’s theater that looked as if it was moved over from Las Vegas. I could see another charm of Girls’ Generation with a stage that made me move my shoulders up and down and is still fresh in my mind.

The videos that came on the screen in between the performances left an impression as well. From videos that looked like art films, to another where the girls transformed into charismatic thieves or warriors. Videos that naturally moved on to their next stage concept helped the concert flow well. More than anything, the video titled ‘story of girls who dreamed of being real girls’ consisting of the members’ auditions, debut, first 1st place win, and daesang win moved me and made me think about a lot of things.

Looking at Girls’ Generation standing at the middle of the Tokyo Dome after all the performances were over, saying their last words, I was able to confirm that they are the girl group that represents Korea. For three hours, the girls told us everything through nothing but their performances.

# A concert created by Girls’ Generation and their treasures

Girls’ Generation’s first Tokyo Dome concert after debuting in on August 5, 2007. I think this stage was different, even for the 8-year old girl group Girls’ Generation, who has stood on numerous stages before. Announcing their Tokyo Dome concert, after going through a difficult situation recently, probably had them nervous because of the large amount of attention and anticipation fans and other people in the music industry had. I can’t really imagine how much they sweat and tirelessly practiced.

When I met Girls’ Generation backstage, they constantly checked on others, relieved their throats, matched their choreography, touched up their outfits, discussed things with the staff, and meticulously checked everything. Even within the noisy, bright atmosphere, you could feel the nervousness. Despite that, the girls seemed to show just how much time they spent together by giving each other words of encouragement.

164139457_11

164140238_12

164141467_13

And there were the 50,000 fans who cheered for Girls’ Generation while standing throughout the concert. From young children to elders, the surprisingly diverse fans yelled out ‘Girls’ Generation’ and sang along with them. Watching them laugh at each of the girls’ comments, I could understand why Girls’ Generation members say, ‘Fans are our treasures.’

164142178_14

The ballad version of Girls’ Generation’s debut single ‘Into the New World’ was the climax where Girls’ Generation and their fans became one. When the 8 members almost cried while singing and held hands creating a circle on stage, the fans in the audience also couldn’t hold back their tears and wiped them away.

How might have they all felt? Girls’ Generation and their fans that are always standing in the same place with unchanging hearts. They probably hurt as much as the tears that they cried, but their Tokyo Dome performance was one that was possible as they learned to walk together again. Watching the concert, I was able to feel the anticipation and hope regarding their future. Like the lyrics, ‘I love you, just like this. The longed end of wandering. I leave behind this world’s unending sadness. Walking the many and unknowable paths, I follow a dim light. It’s something we’ll do together to the end, into the new world’.

# Top Class is forever! I hope Girls’ Generation becomes the group that represents the world.

Like the distance they’ve traveled thus far, Girls’ Generation’s hard work is unrivaled. I remember always being surprised whenever I looked at the records they set.

(Music Video of the Year at the 1st YouTube Music Awards / Ranked on Billboard chart / First Korean singers to appear on France’s number one talk show, ‘Le Grand Journal’ / Daesang grand slam for three consecutive years / First Korean girl group to be number one on Oricon’s weekly chart / Largest amount of audience members recorded)

They swept up the daesang at year-end shows, and placing on well-known overseas charts is something you hear often. By appearing on well-known American and French TV programs, they let people know about Korea. And we can’t leave out their music video that received so much love that it won a YouTube award.

These things are along the road that Girls’ Generation has walked on, and is walking on. Rather than saying they simply walked, I guess it would be correct to say it’s been amassed. I remember the words that came on during a video at their concert. ‘In order to become a real, beautiful girl, we spent a lot of time together, and grew up together’. Over the time of eight years, they became ‘real, beautiful [girls]’, and have taken their place as one generation’s icon.

More than anything, something that has become even more certain is the anticipation that Girls’ Generation will become the representative girl group in, not just Asia, but the world. That is the future of the forever Top Class, Girls’ Generation.

164143464_16

The 50,000 fans’ chants cheering on Girls’ Generation in the Tokyo Dome keeps ringing in my ears. Concluding the things I could feel through the Tokyo Dome concert with this sentence seems perfect.

“Right now it’s Girls’ Generation, in the future it’s Girls’ Generation, forever Girls’ Generation.”

modelpress Reports on Girls’ Generation’s ‘THE BEST LIVE’ Concert

snsd the best modelpress

Korean girl group, Girls’ Generation, held their first solo Tokyo Dome concert, “GIRLS’ GENERATION ‘THE BEST LIVE’ at TOKYO DOME”, where about 50,000 fans were caught up in a whirlpool of frenzied excitement.

Great excitement of the long-cherished Tokyo Dome concert

Having debuted in Japan about four and a half years ago in August 2010, the girls, who swooped down upon the long-cherished Tokyo Dome, saw the audience being immersed in their group image color, Pearl Pink, from the penlights, exclaiming excitedly: “Amazing!”,”I want to take a picture!”, and “I’m so happy!” Inspired by the loud cheers from the audience when Tiffany called out to them saying, “I want to try hearing everyone’s voice directly without the ear monitor at Tokyo Dome… Will you cheer?”, the members all sang “Gee” acapella, and the call and response from the audience was like a kid in a candy store. From beginning to end, the members’ happy faces filled the performance, but while singing the last song, “Into the New World,” the girls were overcome with emotion and choked up while singing.

Even so, the girls wiped their tears, and during the encore, with a happy face, Seohyun read out a letter that everyone wrote: “Today is an unforgettable, important day for us as Girls’ Generation. No matter what happened to us, I am always moved by everyone’s support and belief in us. From our Japan debut to the tour, and until today, standing on a stage like Tokyo Dome, it’s all because of everyone’s support that we could run through it all. We will never forget these precious memories. Everyone, you are irreplaceable to us. I love you!” Sooyoung said, “I’m really happy that I am able to stand on such a wonderful stage at the end of the year. Thank you for an unforgettable 2014,” thus wrapping up the time of both the girls’ and SONEs’ long sought after dream.

A performance with 27 songs over 3 hours

Tying together with their first best album released this year in July, “THE BEST”, this one-night only concert was a compilation stage of all the activities Girls’ Generation has done up to now and is also their first Japan stage after becoming an 8-member team. For over roughly three hours, in a creative production that the audience could enjoy from any seat, the girls performed their hits songs including, “Genie”, “Gee”, and “MR. TAXI”, on the main stage, middle stage, back stage, runways, trolley car, and more. There were a total of seven costumes, where in any costume, the girls’ main charm of their beautiful legs were prominent and continued to charm the concert hall with their overwhelming dances and long, beautiful legs.

During the MC talks, the girls conveyed their happiness standing on stage in Tokyo Dome and their gratitude toward the fans many times over.

Seohyun: “It’s a dream come true moment. I also had some anxious feelings, but when I see everyone, I become really happy. Continuing from now, I want Girls’ Generation to grow together with everyone. I’ll do my best!”
Yoona: “Remembering how everyone gave their love when I first came to Japan, even now it makes me excited. I think standing here on this large stage called Tokyo Dome is a present given to us from everyone. Thank you.”
Sunny: “Tokyo Dome is super duper wide! Is my voice reaching you? Let’s pump it up!”
Hyoyeon: “Receiving everyone’s spirit in turn gave me a lot of energy. Tokyo Dome and everyone are the best!”
Also, when Tiffany spoke, “The moment I came on stage, I was close to crying,” Yuri countered with this year’s buzzword, “Dame yo dame dame! (translator’s note: You can’t can’t can’t!)“; inviting laughter from the entire concert hall.

Sohu Fashion Interviews Jessica

jessica sohu

Sohu Fashion: Hey, Jessica. First let’s say hello to all of our Sohu Fashion friends.
Jessica: Hello friends of Sohu Fashion, I’m Jessica.

Sohu Fashion: Is this your first time in Shanghai? What do you think of this city?
Jessica: I’ve been to Shanghai before, but last time I didn’t have the opportunity to walk and look around. This time, I did have the opportunity to explore, and I love this city—I love the food, the buildings, the historical structures: they’re all so amazing. I’d like to come to Shanghai more often if possible.

Sohu Fashion: I’ve heard that you’ve always been supporting children’s charities. Could you talk to us more about it?
Jessica: Supporting children’s charities has always had an important place in my heart; I love to give back. I’ve invested a lot of energy toward BLANC & ECLARE and UNICEF. I just hope that we can do something useful in this life.

Sohu Fashion: Let’s talk about your brand, BLANC & ECLARE. How did you decide to transition from being a singer to a fashion designer?
Jessica: I think being a fashion designer has always been my dream. I always find myself enjoying reworking my own clothes during the weekends, and I’ve always dreamed of one day making my own designs. That being said, I haven’t given up being a singer. Singing is still very interesting to me.

Sohu Fashion: What’s the story behind this brand name?
Jessica: Coming up with this brand name and logo took a long time. We looked up various languages, roots, and definitions to come up with ‘BLANC & ECLARE’.

Sohu Fashion: What’s this brand’s position (translator’s note: i.e. future direction) and style like?
Jessica: We want BLANC & ECLARE to be eternal, because our style is classic, yet detailed, and simple yet elegant fashion.

Sohu Fashion: As a budding fashion designer, what kind of style do you usually dress in?
Jessica: I don’t think I drastically changed my style of dress. I like to dress to match the occasion. Just because I’m a fashion designer doesn’t mean that I would wear my own designs.

Sohu Fashion: Could you recommend to everyone some of this year’s most popular sunglasses?
Jessica: We designed sunglasses for different tastes and styles. I think we’re about to launch, in the next few quarters, refreshing new colors and designs. My heart is exuberant. What I’m really proud of is that our first classic designs had a good response—you know, both men and women can wear these three designs. They sold especially well in Seoul, New York, and Hong Kong.

Sohu Fashion: Do you have a designer you admire greatly?
Jessica: Yes, the famed Yves Saint Laurent. His love for design and aesthetics teach me a lot, and concerning other up-and-coming designers, he’s an inspiration to everyone.

Sohu Fashion: Crossing from singer to designer—what do you think there are the advantages and disadvantages?
Jessica: I haven’t decided to leave music right away. That is to say, I think music and fashion have a lot of similarities. They both require attention to detail, attention to originality, and attention to the audience. I’ve learned a lot of things from music that have helped me with the complex aspects of fashion.

Sohu Fashion: Can we ask, if you were again faced with setbacks or unexpected situations, how would you deal with them?
Jessica: Difficulties and setbacks are unavoidable; they’re a part of life. Learning and growing from them are what are most important to me—how to turn sadness into happiness, or frustration into motivation.
