In addition to dominating music charts and programs, SNSDis now setting out to conquer the iTunes App Store with their game app, ‘Girls’ Generation Shake‘.
The rhythm game was released on the iTunes App Store on November 18th; it has since climbed to #1 in the music game category in Asian countries like Korea and Taiwan. It’s also ranked in top spots on the U.S., Australia, and Canada charts.
In addition, the app placed 1st in the overall iTunes App Store chart in Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, while ranking 5th overall in Japan – becoming the first Korean music game to do so.
‘Girls’ Generation Shake’ features tracks from ‘The Boys’ album, and has been released in 13 different languages. Their hit songs from the past are also scheduled to be added in updates, which will likely bring about even more attention.

On November 21st, the 2011 Korean Popular Culture and Art Awards ceremony was held at the Seoul Olympic Hall.
This ceremony awards people who have made significant contributions to Korean popular culture and arts. Among the many award receivers, Girls’ Generation is the only idol group receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation award, together with film makers such as Kim Ki-duk and Kim Soo-hee.
Besides receiving awards, Kpop idol groups including Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls, Beast and After School also put up congratulatory performances as representatives of the Hallyu fever.
A photo of YoonA was recently spotted in a social studies textbook for elementary school, specifically on the 15th page of a 6th grade textbook. The photo was posted onto online community and it attracted a lot of attention of netizens.
YoonA’s surprise appearance in the textbook was used in a page to explain the procedures of elections and voting.
Upon looking at the photo of YoonA voting at the ballot box in the textbook, netizens commented, “Girls’ Generation is indeed the popular trend.”

On November 21st, KBS 2TV ‘Star Life Theater‘ aired a ‘Introducing the 9 distinct colors of SNSD‘ special, starring the ladies of SNSD.
The program revealed footage of the girls who were waiting to perform their comeback stage on ‘Music Bank‘.
Backstage, Taeyeon who was suffering from a sore throat croaked, “I’m a little worried because I don’t know what kind of sounds my throat will produce today“.
“I become highly sensitive and get put on edge when I catch a cold or my throat doesn’t feel good“, she explained.
The episode of ‘Star Life Theater’ also revealed the day-to-day college life of members Seohyun, Yuri, and Sooyoung. The girls opened up about what it’s like to be flocked by fellow students wherever they go and how they would like to be normal students. An online community site posted the photo above, which was on the 15th page of a second semester sixth grade Social Affairs and Research curriculum textbook.
The curriculum discussed elections and voting, and a photo of Yoona placing her own vote in a ballot box was added to enrich the text.
Netizens who saw the photo online commented, “She even makes appearances in textbooks now“, “I wish she made appearances in text books sooner“, and “This is the first time I’ve been jealous of sixth grade students“.
On November 22nd, JTBC revealed that Girls’ Generation will be appearing on the weekend variety show “Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys”.
“Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys” will have the group becoming mentors for stubborn troublemakers. It is a dream project, where they will be solving each of their problems.
“Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys” will have five troublesome boys from different areas around the country dorming together. The program will be a reality show, showing how they change every day through training.
JTBC revealed, “Admist their busy schedule after their comeback with ‘The Boys’, Girls’ Generation is looking forward to their first attempt at becoming mentors. The girls have been approaching this seriously, as it is a meaningful project to help wandering teenagers start anew. A new side of Girls’ Generation that has not been seen on any other variety show will be revealed.”
The first episode of “Girls’ Generation and Dangerous Boys” will air on the 4th of December at 7:30pm.
