Your favourite idols on 2011 Incheon Music Wave Concert Red Carpet
SNSD’s Seohyun meets her idol, Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon
Yesterday, we reported about how SNSD, SHINee, f(x), Jo Soo Mi, and many others attended a charitable event hosted by UNICEF Korea.
SNSD’s Seohyun finally got a chance to make one of her dreams come true by enjoying a face-to-face meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon. The diplomat has long been Seohyun’s idol, and she couldn’t hide her happiness at finally meeting him in person.
The high point for Seohyun came when they got introduced to each other and Ban Ki Moon later consented to give his autograph for a copy of his autobiography, “Study Like a Fool and Dream Like a Genius“, where he wrote, “World peace through your music of love!”
Although Seohyun also reportedly wanted to stand next to him during the photo session, it seems as though her luck ran out, as the employee directed her towards another spot, and she eventually ended up standing next to Shin Hyun Joon.
Come see Sorea perform at NY Korea Day on August 16th!
New York City is gearing up for the jubilant celebration of Korean culture that is ‘NY Korea Day‘ on August 16th!
Organized by the Korean American Globalization Committee of Eastern U.S., ’Korea Day’ aims to share our native Korean culture with New Yorkers in the heart of iconic Central Park, where fun activities and delicious feasts are being preparing with the help and support of the Korean Cultural Service NY and many local Korean restaurants.
To open and end the many performances lined up for that day, the KCSNY has invited ‘Sorea‘ to come play music that’ll bridge the gap between generations. Sorea specializes in traditional Korean music, but they’ve also become a sensation amongst younger music fans thanks to their covers of popular K-Pop songs like SNSD’s “Gee“.
The Korean Cultural Services NY (KCSNY director Woo Sung Lee) will also be working withallkpop.com (6Theory Media CEO Johnny Noh) to host the first ever “New York K-POP Contest“. Of the many contestants who’ve auditioned online, the eight teams who made it to the finals will be performing live at the event on August 16th. The single winner of the contest will receive a round-trip ticket to Korea (sponsored by Asiana Airlines), as well as the opportunity to participate in the ‘Worldwide KPOP Contest” taking place in Korea on November 26, 2011.
These exciting events will definitely make you feel hungry later on, but that’s easily remedied by going over to the many stalls that’ll be cooking traditional Korean dishes, such as Bulgogi, Daegi Bulgogi, lettuce wraps, Kimchi, Korean pancakes, Japchae, Ddukboki, and Bibimbap. These dishes will be made right on-site, and so attendees who are new to Korean culture will not only get fresh food, but also an introduction to the dishes that make up the heart of our tables.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!
Date of Event : (Tuesday) August 16th, 2011
Time : 11 AM -7 PM
Location : Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park
Main Entrance : Central Park, 69th & 5th or 72nd & 5th
SNSD tops ranking of Korean showbiz movers and shakes
In the “SMTown Live World Tour in Paris” held recently, they also showed off their influence that has spread into France. Firstly, they overturned the formula of “Overseas concert = Overseas Koreans’ enthusiasm”. As images of French fans cheering in excitement while singing along in their awkward Korean were seen during the concert, it is proven that the Europe gate can be possibly opened by Korean Wave.
SNSD officially started their overseas promotion last year. From August 25th last year when they debuted with their ‘Genie’ showcase in Japan, they kicked off the start of their journey to the international stage. During the first showcase held at Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, 22,000 fans were gathered, which was an unprecedented case in the Japan advancement history. Besides this, the sales of their first Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’, has exceeded 500,000 copies since its release on June 1st. In the first week of the album’s sale, they were ranked first on the Oricon weekly album chart. This makes them the first ever Korean girl group to create such history.
During their press conference, SNSD said, “Seems that we gained a lot of popularity through YouTube, it is also our dream to advance into the Japan and US market.” According to SNSD, as they successfully advanced into Japan and performed in US last year May, they also went to France which they dreamed of only 10 months after their first world tour. No matter in Korea, Asia, Europe or South America, SNSD continues to gain popularity based on their superior fandom.
Seohyun Receives Ban Kimoon's Signature

Girls' Generation's Seohyun, who was present for the event, prepared a present for Ban Kimoon. However, this was not Seohyun's real intention. Girls' Generation's maknae came with a book written by Ban Kimoon himself titled "Study Like a Fool and Dream Like a Genius", which highlighted the processes Ban Kimoon went through in order to become the "president of the world". She brought the book with her so she could ask him for his signature. When Seohyun received his signature on the book, her expression showed that she was deeply moved. Along with his signature, Ban Kimoon wrote, "Peace to the world with songs of love!"
This campaign is an opportunity for secretary general Ban Kimoon to gather support for Africa. With their slogan "Together for Africa", this campaign aims to raise donations for the children in poor countries in East Africa for at least three months.

f(x)’s Sulli and Krystal cool down with some ice cream
f(x)’s Sulli and Krystal have once again confirmed their close friendship.
On August 12th, Sulli wrote on her me2day, “Soojung-ah … I … All I need is you. Kyahhh haha“. She then uploaded a picture of her and fellow f(x) member, Krystal.
In the picture, both members are seen eating ice cream to avoid the summer heat. The photo makes Sulli look as if she’s rocking a boyish hairstyle, and Krystal seems to be more interested in the camera rather than her ice cream.
Netizens commented, “As expected, Sulli is the truth“, “The ice cream looks good“, and “My eyes are purified“.
