Photos from the 25th Golden Disk Awards Rehearsals and Red Carpet

The 25th Golden Disk Awards was held on December 9th at the Hwajeong Gym in Koryeo University, and many top K-pop artists were in attendance.

The awards show first began in 1986, and since then, it’s become Korea’s most prestigious awards ceremony for music. Nicknamed the ‘Korean Grammy Awards,’ the ceremony is known for its fair standards, as the committee utilizes figures from album and digital music sales only.

SNSD decides to forego follow-up promotions

SNSD has revealed that they will not be having follow-up promotions, and will instead be going on variety shows.

According to information revealed by SM Entertainment on December 9th, SNSD will end their “Hoot” promotions because it’s becoming difficult for the group to continue on with Tiffany’s leg injury.

Tiffany was injured on November 14th during a “Hoot” performance, and was forced to withdraw from performing with the group due to the four weeks needed for treatment. SME decided that even after taking off her cast, having her continue to promote with the group would be too strenuous.

Instead, SNSD plans to show off their multitude of charms through variety shows. All year long, the girls have been making consistent appearances on SBS’s “Running Man and ”Strong Heart,” KBS 2TV’s “Happy Together” and “Nocturnal,” and for member Seohyun, through MBC’s “We Got Married.”

The girls have already completed the recording for MBC’s New Year’s special episode for “Come to Play” and “Enjoy Today.”

SNSD’s 2nd Album ‘Oh!’ (released in January 2010) recorded sales of 123,307 copies and its repackaged album ‘Run Devil Run‘ (released in March 2010) added another 56,486 copies to the tally, taking the total sales for the 2nd Album to a massive 179,1793 copies. In Men’s category, the only notable name in terms of album sales is Super Junior, who sold 225,648 copies from their 4th album ‘Bonamana’.

SNSD are also the only artists at the brink of achieving a ‘double double‘, a term given for the achievement of selling more than 100,000 copies for each of 2 albums released in a year. Following the success of 2nd album ‘Oh’, SNSD’s 3rd mini album ‘Hoot’ have sold 91,373 copies as of December 8th.

9 girls with golden hearts transformed into angels to help a single mother

SNSD transformed into angels and helped out in a donation drive for a single mother who is suffering from cancer.

On MBC’s ’7 Days’ Miracle’ which will be aired on December 9th at 6.50pm KST, a donation drive was being carried out for Mdm. Kim Jung Ok, a single mom diagnosed with Stage 3 Cervical Cancer.

All 9 members of SNSD showed their support by donating some of their own items. In particular, their rare signed debut album. MC Kim Jedong, who is a samchon (uncle) fan of SNSD went down on his knees and said, “This is paradise!”.

At the trading centre, queues were formed next to SNSD and Kim Jedong. As items for trade such as notebooks, netbooks, monitors, game consoles, etc were put up for trading, a *male fan sang self-composed song titled ‘Taeyeon ah, come to Hongdae. Let’s rock band with oppa” and aims for a SNSD t-shirt.

Mdm. Kim Jung Ok also had a car accident and she is also suffering from 2nd Degree Intellectual Disability. Her husband passed away due to diabetes and she single handedly raised her two kids, aged 13 and 14 (a boy and a girl) by working in a factory. In December 2009, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cervical Cancer.

Sunny picked as the ‘best drinker’ amongst idols in online poll

In another round of off-beat polls, SNSD’s Sunny was selected as being the idol who was most likely able to hold their liquor at a year-end party.

Community portal site Dish Inside ran the poll from November 30th to December 7th with the title, “The idol who would be the best drinker and the last one standing at a year-end drinking get-together?”

Sunny locked down 1st place with an overwhelming 1,412 votes (66.7%). JYJ’s Jaejoong (who was ratted out by fellow member Yoochun that “He drinks so much and so fast, it’s hard to keep up!”)came in second with 239 votes (11.3%). And in third? Junjin of Shinhwa had the confidence of 70 voters (3.3%).

SHINee’s Onew, Brown Eyed Girls’ Narsha, and Shinhwa’s Eric were also honorable mentions.

Guess this goes to show that netizens believe Sunny’s got the face of a princess but the alcohol tolerance of a sailor.

“Beatles Code” producers mix up picture of SNSD’s Taeyeon with Rainbow’s Ji Sook

Rainbow’s Kim Ji Sook clarified that a picture thought to be of SNSD’s Taeyeon was actually of herself.

On a recent episode of Mnet’s “Beatles Code,” Kim Ji Sook showed off her similarity to Taeyeon. The singer had previously earned attention at the time of her debut for the close resemblance to SNSD’s leader.

Tackling this topic, the producers of “Beatles Code” attempted to compare the two singers in order to see just how much they actually resembled one another. However, they brought in a picture that they believed was Taeyeon when it was actually Kim Ji Sook. All of the Rainbow members confirmed, “That’s Kim Ji Sook.”

The episode can be seen on December 9th.
