On November 9th, passport pictures of popular girl group members were recently posted on an online community site, under the title, “Idol girl groups’ passport photos”.

The pictures included Sandara (2NE1), members of KARA, Krystal & Victoria (f(x)), Hyomin (T-ara),Jooyeon (After School), Sunhwa (SECRET), Tiffany & Yuri (SNSD), and BoA.

While some looked no different from their current image, other pictures showed a vast change in appearance, whether it’s because of a different hairstyle, weight loss, or their younger age.

Netizens who saw these pictures expressed positive comments such as, “They were pretty even when they were young”, “Tiffany and Victoria are goddesses”, “All of them are so pretty.”

Korea’s largest online polling site ipoll.kr conducted a poll for “Best Girl Group” from August 23rd to October 3rd. Various girl groups were paired up in brackets with the winner advancing to the next round. The poll was very popular with more than 100,000,000 votes tallied for the entirety of the poll.

[News] Taiwanese MC Might Face Lawsuits From SM Entertainment?

Following a strong response from SM Entertainment on last week’s broadcast of Super Lucky’s talk show “Fate is Fun”, the MCs of the show said that they were shocked with the news that SM Entertainment may file a lawsuit against them. Furthermore, the MCs sarcastically joked that the show has become a Korean variety show and that Chen Ling Ling had rose to stardom with that broadcast.

During this week’s show, the MCs explained that they did not mentioned about any girl group being forced to provide sexual favors and that they only mentioned that such phenomena exists. The MCs further added that such phenomena could happen anywhere. In reply to SM Entertainment’s statement that the program presented false and distorted facts, Chen Ling Ling explained that the show discussed the matter based on true facts published on a news article.

On the statement that their actions could tarnish SNSD’s image, the MCs said that the article bearing SNSD’s picture was taken from a source and they did not mention any girl group being involved in such activities. The MCs further explained that in the previous show, they expressed their admiration towards a Korean girl group’s (indirectly referring to SNSD) synchronized dance moves and their performances are far more impressive than Taiwanese groups.

The male MC then added that they have ‘read’ their own luck/fortune and were convinced that they will not be facing any problem with it.

[News] 2nd Japanese Single “Gee” surpassed 100k mark in just 3 weeks

SNSD’s 2nd Japanese Single “Gee” have achieved an accumulative sales exceeding 100,000 copies, emulating the success of their Debut Single “Genie”.

Released on October 20th, “Gee” was ranked 5th on the latest Oricon Weekly Singles Chart, maintaining their Top 5 ranking for the third consecutive week.

On the third week of its release, “Gee” recorded sales of 13,320 copies which took the tally to a total of 102,881 copies. Compared to “Genie” which broke the 100,000 copies mark in 8 weeks, “Gee” took only 3 weeks to surpass that mark.

Such explosive sales is the proof of the girls’ massive popularity in Japan and it is by far the best achievement by a Korean girl group in Japan.

*1. Being published on a news article does not mean it is true. Besides, there are MANY unreliable news source these days. Also, 1 case cannot represent everything that happens in an entire entertainment industry.

*2. The fact that the picture was shown on TV is already an act that could hurt the girls’ image. Even though, no name was mentioned, it gave people the wrong impression of the girls. Although the news article came from other sources, the broadcaster allowed it to be aired on TV. Thus, an invalid argument, in my opinion.
