[NEWS] SNSD Girls' Award Performance Overwhelms the Venue!

Asia’s representative girl-group SNSD performed at the National Yoyogi Stadium on the 18th for a fashion event called “Girls Award JAPAN 2010 AUTUMN/WINTER” (Girls Award).

SNSD did their arrival to Japan commemoration live at Ariake Coliseum on August 25th. This is their first live in front of Japanese fans since the release of their Japanese debut single “GENIE”.

The 9 girls’ fashion on stage was of a military rock taste. They had black military-like jackets that were open. Inside was a Lamé tank. [Note: lame is a cloth made from gold or silver thread, in this case gold.] For bottoms they had black short pants and for shoes they had enamel knee high boots.

Their first song was “Run Devil Run” and while the girls were dancing and singing, the audience which was filled with girls shrieked out cheers of joy.

Following that was “Gee” with a catchy phrase and cute choreography which overwhelmed the venue at once.

During the music break they MC’d and broke out into smiles. They greeted the venue with lovely Japanese, “Good evening, everyone!”

Last, they performed their Japanese debut single that was released September 8th and became a big hit, “GENIE”.The 9 members fascinated the audience with their sexy choreography, doing steps with their great legs.

[NEWS] Jessica is such a lovely girl - Ok Juhyun

Singer and musical actress, Ok Juhyun revealed her deep friendship with Jessica through photos posted via her Twitter account on September 17th.

From the photos published, the age difference does not seem to be a barrier to their friendship. Ok Juhyun and Jessica are about 10 years apart in age.

Jessica and Juhyun went to a bookstore while they were in Japan and they seemed to be enjoying the time together. Ok Juhyun updated her Twitter with the following comments:

[NEWS] SNSD at Girls Award Japan 2010, Autumn/Winter

The girls attended their first fashion show in Japan, the “Girls Award Japan 2010 Autumn/Winter” at Yoyogi National Gymnasium Stadium today, September 18th.

The girls opened their performances at the fashion event with “Run Devil Run” and then, followed by “Gee”. The audience were overwhelmed by their overflowing cuteness. Screams could be heard from the female audiences as the Soshi performed their hits.

The girls then greeted the fans in their sweet voices in Japanese, “Konbanwa mina san (Good evening, everyone)”.

It will not be complete without their latest hit single, “Genie” and the girls nailed it. The sexy choreography (legs!) captivated the audience.

After their live performances, the girls gave a little speech to the audiences. They said, “We are glad to be a part of this music and fashion event. We also love fashion very much. On October 20th, we will be releasing our 2nd single. Please show us lots of love.”

SNSD thanked fans for successful debut

SNSD expressed their gratitude towards their fans who have shown overwhelming response and made their debut in Japan a successful one.

On MTV Japan’s “SNSD in Japan Special” aired on September 17th, the girls talked about their debut showcase and their preparation for future activities.

Seohyun said, “During our first showcase in Japan, a lot of people have shown their interest in us. The feeling of getting so much love from them is really great.”

Sunny added, “I was so surprised as the overwhelming response was more than what we expected. I was moved by the response even before I got onto the stage. We will work harder in the future.”

On the dance choreography, Taeyeon told MTV Japan, “On our dance choreography, we are trying to highlight the members’ body line rather than just on the legs.”

The program featured SNSD’s performances of their hit songs, “Gee”, “Genie”, “Oh!” and “Run Devil Run” at the showcase in Ariake Coliseum on August 25th.

Meanwhile, the girls will be attending the 2010 Girls Award in National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo on September 18th.

SNSD on Japanese MTV ‘We weren’t expecting a lot but we got a lot of interest so we felt great’

SNSD came out on a Japanese show and greeted their fans.

On the 17th, SNSD came out on a MTV show called ‘SNSD in Japan’ special programme.

They told their feelings on making their ‘Japanese debut’ and about their future plans.

On the show, Seohyun said ‘we had our first Japanese showcase but many people had a lot of interest in us. We got lots of love from the start so we felt really great’.
As follows, Sunny said ‘actually we didn’t expect a lot from our fans but many people got much interest in us so we were surprised’ and ‘before we even stood on the stage, we felt very touched. We will continue to do our best’.

On that day’s show, each of the SNSD members introduced themselves and did their showcase with their hit songs ‘Gee’, ‘Genie’ and ‘Oh’.

Taeyeon said with anticipation ‘the dance steps which showed off our beauties were one of the special features. We are doing our best to show off our bodyline! If you see our performances, you will know it right away’.

On the 18th, SNSD participated Japanese fashion music event ‘Girls Award 2010’ held at the National yo-yo cultivation 1st gymnasium hall. Afterwards SNSD plan to spend Thanksgiving day in Korea with the family and to return home, celebrating the day.

[NEWS] “Witness the New Generation!”

Or at least that’s what MTV Japan is calling it. The girls have been featured in a show for MTV, and it was just recently aired! The clips aren’t subbed, but it looks like an interview with the girls, some fans on the street, and sorta provides an introduction to who the girls are for the Japanese crowd. Clips below~

But there’s more to just the MTV special to be a ‘New Generation’ right? Soshi has also been nominated for a music award in Japan! Despite debuting late in the year for their entrance into the Japanese market and having their single released a week ago, SNSD has already been nominated for the Top Pop Artist of 2010 in the Japan Billboards. Even though they are dubbed as the new generation, it’s quite an honour to receive this nomination in such a short time frame. That said, the list of nominees is quite long, and the girls will be going up against some really amazing artists. Best of luck to the girls, hwaitaeng!

[NEWS] Why Japanese Girls Go Mad, for Korean Girl Bands

Korean girl groups are attracting more fervent admirers among their own sex in Japan than from the young men they are ostensibly manufactured to appeal to. About 80 percent of the audience at the debut showcase of Girls' Generation at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo on Aug. 25 were female, from teenagers to women in their 30s. Plenty of them even sported Girls' Generation outfits.

Things are much the same with other Korean girl groups like 4 Minute, Kara and Brown Eyed Girls. Management agencies admit that even though the bands were meant to target male fans, more than half of the fans are young girls. In Korea, girl bands have traditionally been popular among men of all ages, from teens to those in their 50s.

Differences in Image
AKB 48 and Morning Musume are the leading Japanese girl bands this year. Dressed in frilly princess dresses and much given to winsome smiles, they dance and sing to routines mainly choreographed with dainty movements of hands and feet. But Korean girl groups have a bolder, more dynamic image. They wear angular uniforms or tight skinny jeans, and dance to choreography that uses the whole body. On stage, they appear confident and charismatic.

Kim Young-min of agency SM Entertainment said, "Japanese girls who've had enough of Japanese girl bands that strictly appeal to men's protective instincts seem to take bolder Korean girl groups as a role model."

Better Skills
Thanks to their notoriously grueling training, Korean girl groups tend to be better at dancing and singing than Japanese ones. Members of Korean girl bands go through an average of three to six years of training, while Japanese girls get just six months to a year. Japanese management agencies recently shifted from quality to quantity, on the assumption that anyone can become an "idol" with the right marketing support. AKB 48, as the name suggests, has 48 members who perform a daily gig for fans in a small theatre in Tokyo's Akihabara. Often members are launched straight off the street and then learn on the job due to these schedules.

Filling a Boy-Band Shaped Hole
Oricon, the Japanese equivalent to charts provider Billboard, recently said Japanese girls in their teens and 20s are taking to Korean girl bands during a lull for Korean boy bands. Bands such as TVXQ, Big Bang and Shinee turned Japanese girls on to K-pop, with the number of Japanese TVXQ fans estimated at over 300,000. That prompted Japanese management agencies to concentrate on the boy band market, according to Shin Sung-hee of Sony Music Entertainment. "They had no interest in girl groups whatsoever, so the current Korean girl band phenomenon took people in both Korea and Japan by surprise," he said.
